I've begun the process of information gathering on tikkas for a potential rifle build. I'm confused now. If this has been asked, mods are more than welcome to delete it. I'm looking at a 6.5 CM varmint. I would like to eventually make it a switch barrel setup with another bolt and barrel like a 300wsm. If I decided to switch to a LA mag for a longer COAL and a LA bolt stop from MT would I also have to switch to a LA bottom metal?

If it takes the "normal" Tikka t3 mags, they are all the same dimensions, the short action have a bit of plastic as a shim at the back of them, the long action are missing this.
I tried a long action mag in my short action t3x.

I am not sure about the ctr mags.

You would not have to switch bottom metal. It would accept long or short action magazines

If your doing a long action mag with 300wsm the long Tikka mags don't always play nice. I believe MT has their own that may work, I have not tried theirs.

Some guys report that the long action tikka mags work, the one I tried did not. The 300wsm is a tiny bit fatter then the 300 win mag and would get hung up.

It worked well in the factory bottom metal without an issue. Just the 300wsm brass itself was a bit thick for the mag

I did see that. I don't think it will cause me any issues because I'll start with the Creedmoor and buy MT LA mags.
