Tikka Rebarrel?

I’ve got a T3X Lite in 6.5CM that I’m ready to put a new barrel on. This is a hunting rifle so I’d like to keep it on the lighter side... sub 10lbs (not trying to turn it into a CTR).

Looking for recommendations on good barrel makers and places to have it installed that people here have used. I see PVA mentioned on other forums. Maybe a Hells Canyon? I’ve never shot a carbon barrel but can see the appeal.
Also, is anyone switching to a barrel nut system like Savage or keeping the factory method? I don’t have a preference as long as it shoots, but building a Savage at home a while ago was a breeze.

Currently this rifle sits in a KRG Bravo and has a 4-14 NF SHV. I could easily swap it back to the factory stock or try something else (cf) if I could keep weight low and the cheek weld high. I love shooting the Bravo but it won’t be the best for humping up and down the mountains where I hunt.
(Switched to the bravo after hunting season). That’s probably a topic for another thread. Bottom line is I’m not married to either stock.

Thanks in advanced

ETA: I do not reload at this point. Not sure if that matters at all?

You're likely close to Mike (Hells Canyon) give him a chat. I have 2 rebarreled tikkas, one from Mike with a carbon barrel and one with a rem contour Obermeyer barrel. They both shoot well, the carbon is stiff and light which is nice, costs $200-300 over a traditional barrel though so your call there.

Both mine and just threaded on, when I shoot them out after a couple thousand rounds I'll pay for another one to be spun on. Not worth my time fussing with a barrel nut as I don't shoot competitively or what to shuffle between calibers on the same gun.

Agree with my friend here. Give Mike a call. He is building a rifle for me and he has been awesome to work with him. Give him a call, you won’t be disappointed

I recommend brux, krieger, and bartlein barrels. All three are top quality. For 6mm I use krieger

Hells canyon is a sponsor on this forum. I don’t know anyone that owns one of his rifles but I’ve read positive reviews.

I’ve had Josh Kunz of PVA chamber several TL3 prefit barrels for me. Great guy to deal with and his barrels shoot.

For the last three years and until he dies I will use Jon Beanland.

Any chance you can throw up a picture of the t3x lite in a the bravo? Thinking of getting one for my 223 t3x lite as it’s mainly a target gun. That and I’ll probably end up with a heavier barrel down the road for it.

Thanks for the replies so far, really appreciate it. Yes, Mike is relatively close and I’ve also heard only good things. I’ll have to read up more on the carbon side of things.

They’re great rifles. This one is just due for an upgrade. I’ve shot the crap out of it over the last year and a half.

What does your rifle weigh all in? Action, stock and scope? Just curious. I have a t3x that I like. My only gripe is the cheap feeling stock. It shoots fine but it is more of a feel thing so I am noodling on a new stock but don’t want a weight penalty.

Close to 10lbs in that pic minus the bipod. I’ll get you an accurate weight later on today.

Desk Jockey, it’s 10lbs 2.9oz with stock, scope, mag. The scope set up fairly heavy but it’s been reliable (scope is 30oz by itself). The chassis is 3lbs, slightly more with the mag.

It is comfortable to shoot, but I’m wanting to get back to a more carry friendly and huntable set up before fall. Hoping to decide on a solid barrel replacement soon and get that work rolling.

Unless your sentimentally attached to the action or considering an oddball cartridge you'll be money ahead to sell your gun and buy another. If there's any life left in it I'd be surprised if it went less then 400$ and new stainless can still be had for just over 600$

Just a thought

This is true and I have considered it, figuring getting a good barrel installed would be as much or more than a new rifle. My thought was the barrel upgrade might be a solid upgrade. Looking to stay with 6.5cm, and I like the action but it’s the same as my other Tikkas... nothing too sentimental

Thanks for the pics. I’m likely going to go through the same thing you are with one or both of my tikkas down the road.

I’m already thinking of doing a manners eh1 with the tikka mini chassis, have hells canyon throw on a new barrel in 7-08 or 6.5 creed maybe.

Could easily see going to the bravo and a steel barrel on my 223 to save some cash for a range gun.

^good advice. Beanland has built a rifle and rebarreled it once for me, great guy to deal with.

Have a tikka 7 saum in the works with Mike at HCA right now as well. He has been great to work through the details with.

It’s nice getting exactly the barrel you want, countour, chamber, length, muzzle threads, but the logic used for a new factory tikka isn’t bad.

Nice to have exactly what you want. It really doesn't cost that much more in the grand scheme of things.

To me, the Tikka's are well worth building on. They're proven reliable. Not saying that some of the custom actions aren't reliable, too, but they aren't as empirically proven as the Tikkas. Further, most custom actions carry similar reliability impediments to the 700's.

There are tons of new factory tikka barrels on ebay, fairly cheap. I rebarreled one all by myself with a Preferred Barrels prefit in 6mmGT just for giggles. I had to buy a few tools though. It was way too easy.
