I have 3 new factory tikka 4 round .223 mags. All 3 of them will not let the case pop up far enough to have the bolt shuck it out. I thought I had a cartridge length issue, but no. Anyone have any tips on getting them to feed?
Thanks

Factory stock with factory bottom metal?

It sounds like the mag is not fully seated. Assuming a right handed gun, make a C with your left hand, thumb on top of the action or scope, fingers on the mag. Squeeze hard and see if it will pick up a round while squeezing.

If it does pick it up, then the problem is either too much distance between DBM and action, or the magazine retention spring, or the magazine catch being too short.

It’s hanging in the mag itself. In the gun or out. All 3 mags. Super weird. I’ve got .308 based tikkas, no problem.

Hangs here. I like rifle. This feeding thing makes it hard to use.

Does this help? You may need to torque action screw alittle. Or trim a little on back of the mag

Perhaps you can help me out here. I’m not having trouble with feeding, but getting the .223 magazines inserted ranges from tough to impossible. I have three Waters and one Mamba magazine that won’t lock in at all. They insert fine, but no reasonable amount of force will make the lock engage on the front. And, if I do get one in, then it requires a lot of force to get the lock to disengage. The three factory plastic and my other Mamba magazine are tight, but everything feeds flawlessly once it’s in there. I’m using stainless steel bottom metal from PR Precision, OEM steel recoil lug, and an OEM wooden stock. I’ve been hesitant to tighten or loosen the action screws because the rifle shoots really well. I think they are at 55. Do you think my issues are caused by it being too tight?

the mag locks off the bottom metal, sounds like your bottom metal front catch is higher than mag catch,

Chalk your mag's catch, then insert mag to see how far off you are, or just loose action screws until it locks.

the action screw being looser or tighter would affect the mag/cartridge height in relationship to the bolt. if loosening front action screw allows the mag in far enough to catch, then you have three options with best option being lowering/shimming/bedding the bottom metal enough for mag to catch, while not getting it to low where bolt doesn't push/pick up shell.

you could alter mag catches or height but thats kind of last resort in my mind.

Thanks! I will try loosening things up and seeing if it improves it. The current stock is a temporary solution until I get my wooden Rokstok lite.

You have to file the latch catch on the waters mags until it works well.

For all the hype and expense I'm not very impressed with waters. They work better than factory though.

It looks like the back of the cartridge is not being adequately pushed up by the mag spring. But, when I look close the case head appears tight to the feed lips, so while I would check the spring, I suspect the feed lips are the issue. Some gentle sanding of the rear portion of the lips on the bottom side would be what I tried. Basically rounding the edge that contacts the case head. If that doesn't work, then the Ascension Industries 3D printed mags.

Sucks to have multiple mags with the same issue, especially as factory magazines are not cheap.
