Tikka Long Range Accuracy

I've taken my CTR 6.5 CM out to 1000 YD with little skills of my own. Gun and Vortex Viper did all the work. Used the Dope I generated to get out to 500 Yrds again a few weeks ago. Hot barrel definitely seems to impact accuracy the further out I get.

I love my Tikka T3 Lite SS in .308. It kicked like a mule before I put a Limbsaver pad and an APS (Allen Precision Shooting) Painkiller muzzle brake on it to take care of the felt recoil. I have been putting different rounds through it for 6 years to see what it likes best (I do not want to reload) and it shoots anything I put through it sub-MOA. However, the best 3 round groups at 100 yds so far in this rifle are:

Remington Core-Lokt 180 gr Pointed JSP .500"
Remington Core-Lokt 150 gr Pointed JSP .531"
Federal Premium Gold Medal Match 168 gr Sierra Matchking BTHP .531"
Asym Solid Defense X 168 gr Barnes TTSX .625"

It loves the Remington Core-Lokt, which is cool with me, because it is inexpensive. All that with a really cheap scope! I really need to mount better glass on it to see how far out I can take it with the match grade ammo.

From initial 100 yard zero to hitting steel at 1275 yards within the first box of ammo. I’m shooting the hipster 6.5cm 143 eldx precision hunter ammo out of my t3x lite. Before this rifle I never shot passed 300/400 yards. Stretched it to 1340 yards by the end of the morning but took a few tries, that was error on my part since I’m just a rookie.

And I hate to say it, but if the rifle is MOA at 100 it’ll be MOA at 1,000.

Bullets and skill, on the other hand, change the equation.

Thats very far from thr truth. You can have a sub moa group @ 100y with an es of 50 fps. That will translate into big groups way out there.
