That's correct. If you want to go that way, I'd recommend putting your barrel up for trade in the classifieds and see if someone else wants to swap. I've got a 30-06 T3 that has identified as a 6.5 and 223 throughout it's lifetime, all using other people's take-off barrels (and bolt swap for the 223).
