Tikka build 6.5 Creed - short or long mags

The M+ magazine allows a COAL of about 2.9" which is plenty for the 6.5 creed with the 156 EOL. Don't know what you have? Just look at the top of the magazine, it will have M or M+ stamped on it.

I have a tikka superlite 6.5 with the m+ mag. I can only load the 156 eol at .120” from the lands. That’s at 2.965“ max mag length.
I’m going to switch to long action mag And bolt stop And try to get closer to the lands.

In my experience the 156 doesnt mind a bit of a jump, so even at .12 off it should shoot well

I run M+ mags in both 6.5 Creed and 7mm-08 both hand loaded to 20 thou off the lands with 143s and 162s respectively. The creed is chopped to 18”, suppressed, and sits in the compact youth stock for my wife. 143’s at 2770 FPS with RL26. Stiff bolt lift happens about 2850. It wears sportsmatch rings and an SHV 3-10. The 7mm-08 wears Hawkins rings and an NXS 2.5-10. 162’s at 2810 FPS from the 20” barrel. No pressure signs but I only get about 4 reloads before primer pockets loosen too much. I love to try to fix things that aren’t broken and I can’t find anything worth improving about either rifle.

How do you like the SHV 3-10 next to NXS 2.5-10.

Thinking about swapping the VX3 2.5-8 that’s on my wife’s .243
