Does anybody have any good loads worked up for a factory tikka shooting the 168 Berger VLD Hunting bullet? I’d specifically be interested in hearing load data with H1000 or H4831SC.

Thanks

I'd recommend the 168 classic hunter in a Tikka. I've had much better results with them than the vld. 69.5gr h1000, cci 250, using Hornady brass. Also had great accuracy with 162 eldm and 71.4 h1000.

You can get to the lands at mag length with the classic hunter. They were much less sensitive to seating depth than the vld in my testing although you do give up some bc.

Ditto on the above. Just shot that last night…a fouler, then 2 rounds w CCI250 primers, then 2 rounds w Fed215GMs….all five under an inch at 100. The 215s were better but none sucked. I can look at my AOL when I wake up and get coffee if you really need to know

Did you end up working up a load with H4831sc?

No. I never got around to it.

I shot a partial ladder today.

Tikka t3 action
20” OMR sendero barrel

Nosler once fired brass, neck sized/tumbled
CCI 250 primers
168 gr VLDH
H4831sc

#1 - 61.5gr @ 2665 fps
#2 - 62.0gr @ 2574 fps
#3 - 62.5gr @ 2714 fps
#4 - 63.0gr @ 2719 fps
#5 - 63.5gr @ 2756 fps

No pressure signs in any of these, but I’m not sure if my rifle really likes h4831sc.

69.6 Retumbo, 168 vldh, ADG brass, 2975fps, 2 SD, 2.5” @ 525yd

Have not had a chance to test H1000 yet. Load shot too good.

Without digging up old notes, mine was easy at 69.5gr H1000 and a pretty substantial jump for the VLDs. Classic Hunters shot great with H1000 and Retumbo at book OAL. IIRC, my Tikka shot the 168s around 2925 fps.
Agreed. Obviously work up but usually around 69.5gr of H1000 behind a 168 is an easy button in 7RM, right at 3k fps out of my Tikka.

Aren’t they jumping a mile though in a tikka?
I honestly don't remember, that rifle is long gone. But also probably because I don't care if they are, I don't believe in seating depth voodoo. I believe the combo either shoots well or doesn't, and I'll change powder or bullet if it doesn't.
