Tikka 7 SAUM Build Short or Long Action?

The bottom metal for tikka factory mags is the same for long and short action. Factory 300wm and factory 223 magazines have the same external dimensions.

Going tikka factory bottom metal pattern makes it a bit easier than using a chassis with AICS bottom metal and figuring out what long action AI pattern mag would work well. Short action AI mags are easy, its the medium and long ones that get kind of funky with tikkas.

I use the HCA mags with my 7 SAUM tikka (which hasn't seen significant use in years). I think @pods8 (Rugged Stitching) might have preferable 3d printed options now for a better price. I forgot I bought one.. I'll have to try feeding and see how it does compared to the HCA. The HCA mags work in my gun with the long seated 175/180 class bullets but not so well when I use shorter coal ammo.

I did order a XLR Element 4.0 chassis is this not a good route? Or just go conventional stock ?

Long action or short? I'm not sure which magazines you'd use for long, there may be a decent solution i'm just not as familiar with them. Short action would be fine, you're just limited to 2.955" or whatever you can stuff in an AI mag.

Long seemed the way to go. 3 round metal mag not really my thing but lol.

I'd figure out which long action mags will work in the chassis and in a tikka. The tikka actions only feed cartridges up to 3.4" or something like that and the AICS mags are longer than that. Obviously you wont be loading 7 SAUM longer than that but I wonder if there is some issue with the LA AI mags allowing ammo too far forward that it doesn't clear the feed ramp... Someone here should have more experience.

I just got off the phone with XLR they are coming out with a 3rd flush mount clip in the next few months. They going to find out the price and call me back later this week so it can ship with my stock. This is great news!!
