Tikka 6cm - Preorder - EuroOptic

Yeah.. Not yet, Im sure theyll come soon enough

I blame NRL, PRS, YouTube, & most shooting media as a whole.
The masses think they want some silly long barrel to crank velocity, So they buy whatever the new hot caliber is in the longest barrel they can find.
They all think they shoot further than they actually do & will be able to smack a game animal at 600 yds + with no practice and a capped turret 3-9x40.
You guys would be amazed at some of the questions and requests I get everyday, its literal insanity sometimes.
They forget a hunting rifle is not a competition rifle, it is a rifle that will be carried far and often and shot very little.
At least on the east coast, there is such a negative connection between short barrels and accuracy its insane, but the second i let someone use my 18" 6.5 w/ the OG 6.5 it changes their world.
I dont see the market shifting until the masses stop buying 24" rifles, I do think the cheap suppressor craze going on right now will help our cause though.

I’ve been hunting out west my entire hunting career, and transitioned to long range hunting around 2013 to increase my opportunities to harvest. I will take a 26” barrel, even with a suppressor, over an 18-20” barrel every time for the way I hunt. The added velocity means an extra 100-300 yards of lethal range, which I use. I find longer barrels usually hold more steady in the field as well. The extra weight out front acts as a counter balance to your body movements in the stock.

A short barrel for certain conditions are great, but for open country hunting in the west, they are not in the way of anything. I pair mine with a folding stock, and can drop a rifle with a 26” barrel, brake, suppressor, or whatever right into my pack if I want, with the barrel below my head.

So you hunt at that added extra distance?
So a 16 inch 6cm is good to 600 but you will carry that pole to be able to shoot at game 900 yards?
16-18 inch longer potentially.
I don’t know a single person that hunts big game at 900.
That’s basically what your saying.
Even worse if you compare to a 18-20 inch.
Your killing big game at 1200 plus yards?

Yes, simple as that. I’ve killed the most game with a 223 in an AR15. Short, handy, versatile and accurate. However, thats only if I expect shots to be 400 yards or in.

For open country hunting, most of my shots on game are 500-700 yards, but I seem to go past 800 yards every year.

This makes sense if you are shooting multiple rounds in the field, but in my experience big game hunting is less about shooting and more about getting into position and range of the quarry. Do you really have to shoot your animal more than once or twice? Even if you do, like my first deer that I shot-when I was 14 years old-5 times at 20 yards with my 30-30 lever gun(in fact a carbine, so a short barrel with probably more muzzle blast than most)…my hearing is still excellent. I’m not saying suppressors don’t help with hearing protection but unless you are shooting with shorter barrels and/or magnums it’s not like you will lose your hearing over 1 or 3 shots in the field. The irony is that a 22”+ barrel in most cartridges has reasonable decibels but by chopping it to add a suppressor you greatly increase muzzle pressure and unburned gases.

It’s not just the weight penalty that comes with using a suppressor but also…

1) worse balance
2) -25 fps/in velocity/+1” barrel length w/ suppressor; pick your poison
3) more mirage, tough to get through a 10 shot group unless you do it really fast or really slow

Suppressors certainly have their place but there are obvious cons to them as well.

At the end of the day it’s a free country and whatever floats your boat. In the field hunting game, I’ll take my 24” naked 6.5 CM over an 18” suppressed 6.5 PRC with nearly the same ballistics all day.
Did you just really give a diatribe about only shooting once or twice, then give a con of mirage with 10 shots?

Been a while since there’s been a proper argument on one of my posts lol

Here, I’ll stir the pot..

Top is a 22” 300 prc that weighs less than 8lbs
Next is a 18” 6.5 sig cross w/ a Swarovski on it (it’s a metal frame, chilly! )
Below that is a 16” 308 tikka in a HNT 26 w/ GPO 1.5-9x33
Below that is a 16” 5.56 I built when I was 18 and have killed everything in NA with short of brown bear, moose, sheep, and elk…

Not pictured is a 16” 45-70 Marlin and a 16” 30-06 Remington 760.. both with aimpoint acro’s I use specially for shooting running game.

Who wants to bully Jake for his hunting rifles?

Meh, buttstock cartridge carriers are dumb.

Wiremold for an outlet though...c'mon, be a man. Open up the wall and wire it properly!
