I have a tikka 300 win mag currently shooting hornady superformance 180 sst's. Shoots well under 1 moa. I am considering trying out the new precision hunter ammo in a 200 grain.

Im wondering if the twist rate in the tikka 300 win. will in theory shoot this bullet well? Also does anyone know if these bullets will fit in the tikka's Mag?

Thanks in advance!

If it is a factory round, they conform to standard specifications, which means they will fit in any factory mag.

According to Google, the length on the 200 gr is going to be 1.537" That's probably longer than ideal for your 1:11 twist, and might be marginal in some conditions, but probably worth buying a box if you want to find out.

You can punch in the data right here:

And decide if you think it's close enough.

For reference, I've used a 1.472" long Barnes LRX in my 30-06 Tikka, and it stabilizes, but I do notice larger groups when shooting in very cold weather (0F) and low elevation. Hard to decipher if it's bullet stability getting worse, or some other cold weather related issue though.

Yellowknife,
Thanks for the response. I don't know much about this stuff... My gun seems to like the 180's. If I bought a box and shot good groups at 200 yards would I potentially see worse stability at farther ranges or does bad stability show up at shorter ranges too. I will play around with that calculator when I have some time. Thanks again

I shot a Tikka superlight 300 Win Mag for a while and it handled 200 grain Accubonds very well - sub MOA at 200 yds 5 shot groups consistently so if the ELD x won't work the 200 gr Accubond will - In theory, you "should" be able to get a bit more velocity with a slower twist as well

I think it would be a magazine challeng, not a twist issue.
I loaded Barnes 180 TSX and 200gr Partitions in my T3 300WSM and the mag was the limiting factor.
I recall someone machining a groove in the front of the mag for a bit more COAL.

I'm with"Thinking man" and would be more concerned with the OAL (over all length) of the new cartridge as to how it fits in your magazine. Why go to the 200 grain bullets if it shoots the 180's fine? I've always found the 180's more than deadly enough for everything that you hunt in the lower 48 and IF I needed more, I would step up to a bigger caliber rifle. just my thought and style.

So has anybody shot the tikka t3/200 gr eld-X yet? Curious if the OAL was an issue?
