Tikka .22lr setup for long range

I really appreciate everyone’s tips! Thanks for the help!

Part of me really likes the idea of starting with a SWFA fixed 10 just to see what I can get away with. I’ll probably show up to the next event just to watch and check out everyone else’s setup, I imagine it’ll be mostly nice stuff, chassis, high end scopes, etc…

Maybe I’m being naive, but I’m so used to shooting my rifles off my pack with a 3-9 scope set at 7x, I’m kinda tempted to see how I can do with a similar/minimalist setup to keep it fun.
Let’s just say for shits’n gigs…a Tikka with vertical grip, bipod, rear bag, quality ammo that groups tight, and a fixed 10 or a higher mag scope with 30 moa rail…how much will I be held back by my gear?
I don't think you'll be held back to much by your gear. My tikka is set up pretty much like you described: vert grip, 20 moa mdt rail, arken 4-12 (I think) set usually at 6-8x, shooting cci sv. Shooting off my pack at 150yds I can usually keep my little 1" spinner going pretty good. Haven't stretched it to 300 yet but shouldn't be a problem. I also don't seem to have any of the feeding/ejection issues others have mentioned... I've got probably 5-6000 rounds thru this rifle and I can't honestly remember a single misfeed or ejection issue.

Definetly get the fixed 10, you need parralax. It’s plenty for a 22 match, I’d even argue you could be competitive with it. The biggest downside is that the turrets are only 5 mils per rev so it’s easy to get lost in the turret.

As I said above, I think with a factory tikka your going to have a decent disadvantage to some others shooting more comp style rifles. That and your chances of having feed/ejection problems are high.

Iv had a T1x, with a rail and a 10x swfa in a krg bravo. It was a decent setup but the feeding problems drove me nuts. Every other stage I was changing mags and tapping them to get rounds to feed.

As of now im shooting a Cz 457 mtr, with a 30moa rail and a 10x swfa, eventually a weighted rail. I plan to change nothing as I only shoot occasional 22 matches. I expect to be competitive with this setup.

Super happy with my cz457 and Swfa 10x
Just wish I would have got the 30moa rail, not the 15.

For you guys using the fixed 10, are you ever wishing for the 12x version? Or is the 10x better for the 40 yard stuff and still capable at 300? Only wondering since I think both adjust parallax down to like 10 right?

Sure more would’ve nice at longer range but it’s not totally needed. Most targets at 300 yards are not going to be tiny like you would see in centerfire matches.

I don’t think I’d want a 12x only because being a rimfire it’s shot close up quite a bit more.

It looks like the two local matches are the silhouette, which is mostly shot at 40,50,75 and 100 yds. And sometimes they’ll do 100, 200, and 300….i don’t know the size of the targets.
Next Sunday they’re starting a monthly Long Gong match, which is all at 300 yards. 8, 6 and 4 inch targets.

I have a 12x on my T1x. Shot a groundhog at 18 yards on Saturday and the idea of wanting more field of view never entered my mind 🤷‍♂️

That’s getting pretty small at 300 for a 22.

I don’t see the 10x being unusable. Personally I’d be spending another grand on a scope that I felt was a better option.

We have a similar shoot here at a local gun club. Rams are at 275 yards. The category I shoot (squirrel division- sporter barrels only, 9x zoom max, and no adjustable parralax) was won by a t1x in factory furniture.

factory t1x shoot quite a few perfect scores.

You should be fine.

I shot a few matches with a 6x. Any issues I had were not scope related. 😁
Try the 10x and go from there.

I’ve used the 12x as well, but I found it less versatile. I just haven’t ever needed the extra magnification.
