I currently have a 10 round 2.6” Waters mag, and it works well! However, I’m not fond of the 10 round for hunting use. It’s great for range time when shooting groups and such. I have a Gen 2 MT mag en route. I’ll report back with how that works.

Not related to the factory bottom metal but I saw MDT came out with a poly 12 round 223 AICS pattern mag now as well which is pretty cool. I’ll probably grab one if I decide to keep my 223 in the bravo.

Maybe a dumb question but…. Could a bottom metal be made to fit a tikka that could use the Sako 75/85/90 flush fit double stack mags? I’d gladly pay what those mags cost if they would work in a tikka. I realize the Sako is a 3 lug and tikka is a two so it might never work. @Salmon River Solutions @Formidilosus

A flush 6 round mag would be nice
Stocks would need to be relieved for the fatter magazine
The tikka is a center feed, sako staggered. Probably need to modify the tikka action
Then your bolt would need to be altered for the staggered mag
Custom bottom metal
Custom bottom metal stock inlet
Probably cheaper to buy a complete sako rifle

Thanks for the elaboration, more trouble than it’s worth.

Well I’ve never tried it either.
Suppose it could be done by someone with the know how
Then you have the issue of 85s magazines. How long will sako be making magazines for the 85 and the ones available are $150

Definitely want to hear how the gen 2 Mountain Tactical works for you! That would be the easy button for long oal hunting mag since as pointed out 10 round are much better suited for range work.

Mags suck to make. We don't have the ability to make steel mags (presses, shears, welders etc.), and are limited to aluminum ones. The wall thicknesses have to be thicker than the steel ones so theres only certain ones it even makes sense otherwise you're limiting COAL.

My second gen MT 223 mags worked fine for a while then didn’t, left slot of the 2nd or 3rd round too low.

6 round waters are still my choice for everything that dosnt require 10. They don’t hang out enough to be annoying, and they lock in solid.
