Threading barrel on Winchester model 100

I have a Winchester model 100 semi auto in 308 that I am considering threading for a suppressor. It has a front sight from factory. Not sure how the open sight is attached to the barrel. I don't see any screws holding it on. If the sight can be removed, can the barrel be threaded starting at the end and continuing over the area where the front sight was removed?

It is soldered on. A propane torch will get hot enough to melt the soft solder that Winchester used during that time but you will have a big silver patch where the sight was.
