This is a goat in a unit where historically an 8 to 8.5 inch billy is the top end.
I'd love to know your thoughts.
Spot on. The head and face is a definite give away! Its not a young goat. Its a mature animal for sure.Goat characteristics can be so regional...that being said, based on how mature the face looks and the spindly horns...a billy with a mature face like that would not leave any question as to his gender. I vote nanny, all day.
A billy with horns that size would have a short, cute face. The long nose/mature face is a big tell tale sign of a mature animal, at least when I evaluate goats, I use it frequently. Just my .02. Hope this helps somebody!

She also has a bit of a sway back in this one if you look above. Seems like an older short horned nanny to me. I’d put money on it. Not my money. But somebody else’s? You bet!!

I have heard in orientation classes with bio's that billies and nannies without kids shed first and early. Nannies with kids will partially shed in the same patterns exhibited in the above photos - another clue in the ID game.
