Thoughts on green tip 5.56 (62 gr)

It is fine stuff for its intended use. Mostly good for antisocial purposes where there is a high possibility of soft body armor, light skinned vehicles or mild intermediate barriers like auto glass and thin walls.

For four legged critters, it isn’t great IMO. The steel tip/core and bullet design are built for enhancing penetration. I haven’t shot many animals with them but they zipped right through a couple of ground hogs and a coyote. By zipped right through, I mean small entry and small exit wounds on one ground hog and the coyote. Both took multiple shots but the first would probably have been lethal. There was tissue damage for sure but not enough to do the deed quickly. The third ground hog was a body shot. He left blood but bolted to his hole before I could follow up. By contrast, the 55 grain hollow points I use now tend to leave big exit wounds and don’t require follow up shots.

Fine stuff for training, EOTWAWKI, zombie apocalypse or Red Dawn type stuff but I wouldn’t take it hunting.

Perfect... I hand load with hollow points for critters, but slinging brass with my 7.5” bbl pistol or a few other rifles is tough to beat for $0.32/round. I even bought 1k rounds of that cheap 9 mm Tula for $115. Plus the election is coming up 🤮! I’ll let folks know if it shoots for a damn... the 55 gr Lake City stuff doesn’t do so hot in a few of my guns.
