Thoughts on a Kimber Montana 260?

Hey guys I was in a local gun shop today looking around and came across a Kimber Montana in 260. It looked like it was in real good shape and had a leupold on it. They have it up for right at $1000. I have been interested in a 260 for a little bit now and am thinking this might make a great backpacking rifle. I have read where some guys have trouble with the Kimber Montana so I'm a little hesitant to pick it up. Worst case scenario is I buy it and cant get it to shoot to my liking and pull the scope off and sell the gun and pick up something different. So those of you with experience with this gun, do you think that's a good deal for the gun and would you be worried about the accuracy of it?

260 ! Buy it ! Just about every issue with kimbers can be worked out reasonably easy. A few have had bad barrels maybe but mostly I think it was that really light rifles a hard to shoot well. A 260 with some 140's will kill from antelope to elk well. If you don't like it pull the scope and message me :)

The .260's were chambered during Kimber's "problem era." I wouldn't go into the situation with high expectations, but I would NOT pass on that deal either.

Google "montana tinkering 24 hour campfire" and "kimber montana bedding and pre-flight checklist 24 hour campfire"

Those two searches should return threads from the 24 hour campfire discussing how to deal with common Kimber issues thoroughly.

It's on the rack for two reasons, first one is waiting for a sucker.
Been there with a Montana.
Some get lucky and find a shooter, some are OK with 1 1/2" $1000 rifles, and some sell them again.
Hope it works out for you. Follow Belly's links if you pick it up.

Love em, would grab it in heartbeat! Most Kimber haters do not know how to shoot a rifle that light. I know not all but the majority. Co worker bought one my recommendations and was mad it would only shoot 2" groups, I told him hold the forearm and would'n't you know he touched holes.

Never have heard of a chamber problem with a Kimber - they broke a few stocks at the pistol grip but I think they replaced all of those - had some firing pin spring issues that they backed 100% - as stated by others the "Montana tinkering" you tube tells volumes of easy to fix "problems" that a person might encounter on quite a few other brands as well

If I were you I'd buy it. If you decide not to purchase the rifle would you care to say where this rifle may be, I think I know someone who would be interested? All the Montana's I have are very accurate and a pleasure to carry in the field. I've done the "Montana Tinkering" right out of the gate with each one I've purchased and never had an issue. The BS excuse of not knowing how to shoot a light weight rifle is a blanket excuse for not knowing how to shoot period.
