The simple answer is a gut shot on a deer with a 22LR vs a 300 Win Mag. Don't forget the DRT aspect.

Both of those will kill the deer with that "one shot". Both will take a long time for the deer to die and result in a "not fun" tracking job as well.

It just proves anyone can get published online. I wouldn't put too much into what the author wrote after seeing that he posted this hero picture on Instagram of his "Colorado mule deer". Bucks like that fall to nothing less than the "lord's cartridge".

I’ve heard so many good things about the 222 and 50gr soft points. I have been looking for one for a couple years now and they were either a Savage 340 with that wonky scope mount, or they were a $1500 Sako. This T3 was a great middle ground.

lol, I usually clean my workbench off at least once a quarter!

I believe that the 222 Rem is a standard chamber offering in the T3X, but there just aren’t many of them imported into the US. The used ones that I have come across have both been the older T3 model.

I enjoy reading hunt stories and arguments from both sides of the caliber debate. The author of the article doesn’t seem to realize it, but the story he quotes is a data point of evidence for the effectiveness of small cartridges and well placed shots.

Here’s the excerpt:

Hoping the link above works as its the killshot video. I've been toying around with the idea of shooting a wild boar with my 22 hornet for a while now. All the ballistics I ran looked like it was more than enough so I worked up a load with the 45gn TSX moving 2647fps out of a 20" barrel. Sighted 1" high at 100 gives me a MPBR at 0-170 yards for a 2" target. Around 200 yards was the max distance before velocity dipped below 2k which I wanted to stay above. Shot this boar at 164 yards quartering away behind the shoulder, impact velocity 2100fps, full pass through double...

If you get caught speeding, they don’t have the power to confiscate your rifle and the vehicle used for transporting the animal you shot with your illegal firearm. In terms of consequences, it’s more akin to a DUI than speeding. Even if morally there’s no real harm in it.

Are there Virginia hunters who use .224 caliber firearms for deer? Absolutely. Even forty years ago there were lots of people using .22-250s to kill deer. It was notorious where I grew up. But, the risk just isn’t worth it if you end up on the wrong side of local authorities and have anything to lose.
