Thermal Scanner Question

I am looking at picking up a thermal scanner for predator hunting and for just having fun with in the off season. I am looking at the RIX handheld models. Either the K2 or the K3. I intend to use this in thick woods where I would rarely shoot past 80 yards or so. Is the 384 resolution worth the price difference over the 256 for my use case? I want to be able to tell if it is a coyote or deer, etc but it will be at close ranges. Where I hunt I don't have any large open fields. It is mostly smaller openings or clearings in the woods.

Take a look at the new DNT HS225 - Hydra 384x288 25mm Multi-Function Thermal Scope - Standalone Scope - Clip-On - Handheld Monocular At only $799.99, and with their new super resolution technology which enhances the 256 to almost be on par with any 384 out there. Audio and video recording can still be used as a rifle scope or clip on, in addition to being a handheld spotter. This unit is certainly worth a look. These should be available in the next week or 2.

With the two units you're looking at from RIX you should also look at the AGM Taipan TM15-256 Thermal Imaging Monocular. This will have a better display than the pocket K2/3 and with the lower base magnification it will be better for the thick woods having the wide FOV.

Doug sees many products I do not.
That said, I just sold an old Flir and Bought a RIX K3. Very impressed and satisfied. Exceeds my old one by leaps and bounds. I especially like that it is the size of a flat laser range finder. I can slip it in my cargo pocket and hardly know it is there.
I use for general scanning for coyotes when calling, deer and hog recovery, household thermal work (air leaks, mouse entrances etc)
