Hey guys,

I just got an Athlon 35p-400 thermal scope for my rifle. This is going to be my first thermal optic for yote hunting. Playing with it in the yard, I'm please with it. We will see how she fairs in the field.

I already know I want something to scan with. I have been wanting a scanner for a long time, mainly to find the wounded deer my buddies shoot... I have never wounded a deer myself, only my friends.

Anyway... I want to get either a ballistic helmet, or bump helmet I can mount this monocular on as I do some extra-caricular activity. I have really been debating on going NV or Thermal, but thermal won out. Budget finally came through, so it's time.

Scan range is going to be out to 500 yards, don't need to ID them, just detect. Main thing is I want to be able to use in my hand when deer hunting, and mount to a helmet when yote/hog hunting.

Any suggestions on optics and helmets?

My opinion on scanners. If you want something for only detecting, not ID and inside of 500 yards, on a helmet: stick with a 1x base mag scanner. And it doesn't have to be anything expensive if that's your realistic expectations for it.
That was my thought. I want something I can use to walk out in fields, walk through the woods, nothing magnified. I just didn't know who offers a decent optic that can mount to a helmet.

And I have never, ever, ever wounded a deer myself...haha. I don't know how to use emojies on here, otherwise the sarcasm would have been noted easier.

Do you have a suggestion for a brand? The one monocular Ahtlon makes doesn't seem to be the kind I want/need.

A fifteen minute phone call with Levi turned into an hour of education with him finding the exact product for my niche need. He gave me a very fair price for what I ended up buying.

Rix has the ST6 which has a good form factor to helmet mount. You don’t need a 640 unit for the ranges you are talking though.

The ML 19 is a 384 and is made to helmet mount also. Most scanners are not great for helmet mounting. The ST6 isn’t much more than the 19.

do you think I would be better off going with NV for helmet mounting?
