There’s a new backpacker in the misty mountains.

My 90 year old dad walked off into his last Arizona Sunset on Palm Sunday.

We were square and said our goodbyes long ago. I will see him next time I am in the mountains. It was a good day for an old cowboy. There’s no tears but the ones from laughing at wry jokes in his honor.

Man, I hope I can be backpacking in the mountains as old he was. He went on 10 day Philmont treks into his 70s with scout troops and caught his limit of trout ever chance he got.

Hope you all had a cowboy, and if you didn’t be one for some other kid.

My condolences to you and your family.

P.S. "There is nothing more sad or glorious than generations changing hands." One of my favorite quotes of all time and I always think of it when I stories like yours.

My Dad is the best person I know. He’s 70 this year and I’m really hoping me and my kids get 20 more years with him.

Sounds like he had a heck of a life and we know he raised at least one awesome person.

Sorry for your loss. Wishing you and your family all the best.

Sorry for your loss, sounds like a great man to emulate! God bless you and your family through this time.

Congrats to your dad on a well-lived life. A few of us are fortunate enough to have such examples.

My dad checked out one year ago tomorrow -- a few days after celebrating (well) his 95th. He hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim twice in his 70s, and was still hiking in the GIla with me at 85. I've got some training to do...
