The Shoot2hunt Podcast

Jewel is a POS field trigger. Easily the worst, among the worst.
Sorry I am continuing the side track, but any experience with Bix N andy? A few people I have shot matches with suggest they are more reliable than the TT, though they did also mention that they can be taken apart easier to clean than a TT, so that there to me admits they are prone like any other 700 trigger.

Have a Bix N Andy TacSport right here I’ve been using. Has frozen up and had light strikes multiple days times in the last couple of months.

Are there ways to mitigate for light strikes in sub freezing temps? Ie, using dry lubricant or having an empty chamber and firing pin de-cocked.

Degrease the firing pin, bolt, and channel.
No lubricant for most cold conditions.

No. If it gets frozen or stuck with the firing pin forward, chambering may, and can cause it to fire upon closing.

The answer is a different action/trigger. The whole source of failure can largely all but be eliminated by not getting emotionally attached to a certain type of action and trigger.

I have one rifle with a 700 trigger and just swapped to a bix Dakota for the very reason I can open it up if it gets crummy. Who knows if that means anything, I don’t shoot the rifle enough to really put it to the test.

Thinking about swapping to a bix tikka dakota to get a little lighter weight without the spongy feel of a light spring in the tikka trigger. This would only be for my match gun but something I may try eventually.

Does the Sako 85 now 90 use the same trigger as the tikka? Wish they would make a flush mag for the tikka like they do for the Sako.

Tikka’s with a lighter trigger springs also are more prone to issues than factory ones.
I posted before I think, but since the topic is up, when I had the Mtn Tactical springs in my tikkas, I was able to slam fire time if I ran the bolt hard enough. Adjusted as light or as heavy, didn't matter. To be fair, I never ran the bolt this hard while actually shooting, but the possibility was brought up so I decided to test dry fire. With the factory spring adjusted as light as it goes (1.5lb in this particular gun) I cannot get it to slam fire no matter how hard I run the bolt.

Both my Tikkas are OEM spring as light as they’ll go (both about 1.75lb) and I can’t get them to slam fire by working the bolt either.

Doesn’t mean I trust it 100%, but I do trust it

I enjoyed hearing that the UM rings will be available in 1" rings.

While there are certainly circumstances where a big scope is needed, there are other times where weight is a huge priority.

You guys got me wanting to put factory trigger springs back in my tikkas but not sure where the hell i put em.. Anyone seen them sold online?

I've got a few I can mail you for free if you're patient. Not sure when I'll be back in the shop, probably later this month.

I missed it I ges.
What was said about the aftermarket springs?
Edit: was right ahead of my eyes. Was thinking it must have been in the podcast

Both of my tikkas have factory sprints with the screw all the way out. How ever my comp guns trigger is a lot lighter. Makes me wonder what the differences are and if there is a difference in drop safety.

Good thing my hunting rifle is the heavier I guess (it’s still fine)
