It just depends on your tolerance for loosing sight of the animal during the shot. The lower your tolerance, the lower your magnification.
I guess? There shouldn’t really be much tolerance for losing sight of the animal at the shot. It’s pretty important to see the animals reaction, the impact, where the animal goes immediately after the shot and having a follow up shot headed their way ASAP

I agree. It was a diplomatic way of saying “Jake doesn’t know what’s good for him.”

Hahaha I’m shooting a 10lb 300 Norma Improved also. I hardly ever shoot that bitch above 12X lol. Watched all my animals get smoked last year in the scope, at like 6-9X power.

I just shot a 7” group at 1226 yards on 15X and watched every bullet hit the target.

High magnification is absolutely overrated. Cool for punching paper, but totally unnecessary for hunting.

Can't argue with those results! The color combo on that thing makes me moist.

It’s by far my favorite cerakote job that I’ve had. And I just told my gunsmith I wanted brown and black, but didn’t care what pattern he did or anything.

But anymore, I don’t care much how they look. I just want them to be functionally sound, with a straight ass chamber haha.

Actually switching this over to a 7-300 NMI soon. 20% less recoil, with180 ELDM going 3200+fps with a G7 of .39. Should be a very manageable killing machine.

Liked the new intro but it could be shorter. Long outro is fine. I do prefer a podcast that starts off with an intro instead a preview of the podcast.

On the topic of the podcast, one of my shooting goals this year is to get more comfortable at lower power.

Question on the latest scope podcast. If I heard correctly, Jake mentioned the 2.5 NX8 wasn't as reliable or had some issues compared to the 4x32 NX8. Is there a thread or other info available on those issues with the 2.5?

I think it is more of the optical system being a extreme design given the length, so there's some down sides that are magnified for some. At least that is all the feedback I have ever seen.

Listened to the last podcast. I think Jake's mindset on magnification (more is more better) is how most hunters naturally felt about it before being exposed to input/experience from others. It does feel better to have a bigger image of the target you're trying to hit in the scope. Agree with Ryan's angle on it though. I cant imagine shooting an animal (other than a prairie dog or some other tiny varmint) on 32x.
