Noticed Form had a shemagh listed on his equipment list a while back and Ryan made mention of one recently on Shoot2Hunt, for some reason it stuck in my head as potentially useful.

Ordered a cheap amazon version on a whim.

Decided it might be useful for weed trimming as I HATE weed eating and getting hit in the face w debris. Put into use for weed rating and mowing fields and found the shemagh super useful for debris/dust/sun/heat mitigation (wet it). I’m hooked, but the Amazon version material sucks.

Ordered up the Combat Flip flops version (Afghan) and a Hirbawi version (Palestine) to try, figured go to who actually makes and uses them. These are both much higher quality than the Amazon version and worth the extra $.

The afghan version is a bit lighter/finer weave and will probably get the most use for around the farm and hunting.

The Hirbawi version was limited on color options, I’ll likely dye this one tan or green. I would say this version is the best quality, but may be difficult to find going forward.

I can see a bunch of use cases and will be adding it to my hunting gear going forward.IMG_0164.jpeg

Very useful for any number of things. Also very useful in the winter for the same reasons (wind/snow in the face)

I've mainly used them for paintball as a neck protector but I've taken them hunting to use as a sun shade and face protection from bugs while napping. And it adds a +5 cool points

I’m def not cool, nothing going to help that.

I get it if you served and have some ties or connections that’s personal but why the hell would any other American were one in a pattern like that.
Just curious

Well I may be the odd ball but I don't think it looks bad. With that being said I don't wrap it around my head. I use it sometimes as a scarf or snot rag like a handkerchief. To each there own.

The cheap Amazon one thought it was more tan (desert) and pattern might break up facial features. The white and black one I wanted the highest quality fabric, that particular maker is described as such.

I’m not rocking one of these around town. It’s purely a functional item to me. I put off picking one up r/t it being slightly cringe and tacticool.

The cheap one is Chinese made, to me that is ultimate cringe.

Point of the post is high quality ones are worth seeking out and useful.

Saw a post today on social media. A doctor will likely lose his job over wearing something with the colors of one of those. Maybe figure out the material and just order the material in an appropriate size?

@RockAndSage are you referring to one's like these?

Well, that's a flag only flown by one particular tribe and those seeking affiliation with them (or to be seen as affiliated with them), so yes. And, intended message sent is not always the same message that's received. Change colors, change pattern, it's like changing flags entirely.

This is 100% separate from the functional utility of the item.

I have thought about one in woodland camo or just ranger green as to avoid any symbol of any tribe.
Right now I use a neck gaiter and a cravat .

The Combat Flip flop ones are offered in neutral colors (I would assume plain colors are safe from affiliations). Maybe a guy could find Egyptian cotton fabric of the correct weave...

SOB tactical has a polyester one, but it appeared to be China made.

@justinspicher sent me info for a local gal who does more Western styles.

Polartech Alpha Direct might be one to try?
