The Rokslide Stock Traders Thread

Its more like the unpredictability has become predictable and many or most of these factors are already baked into the markets ahead of the major event as a result. It was apparent that the tariffs would be ruled unconstitutional weeks/months in advance. it was also predictable there would be retaliatory tariffs through other channels. Iran kicking off was likewise predictable. You can only disrupt the markets so many times before it becomes normalized and people are reading/anticipating the disruptions realizing that they can continue to make money.
So far anyway.

There are still a lot of possibilities for a major shitstorm......the numero uno is China. We disrupted 2 of their main sources of oil....hopefully Trump has a plan to pacify them and it doesn't involve poking the bear.

I like to invest in promising sectors. How can the defense sector not be a great investment for the next 3-5 years? Yeah, it has been since Trump was elected....it should continue to be for a long time especially since Europe needs to ratchet up their spending. There are a couple ETFs ITA is one...but its largest holding is GE Aerospace which isn't ideal.

So far, the US hasn't targeted the Iranian oil infrastructure, though, one would assume that on a long enough timeline ( be that weeks, months or... years), those will become targets. In the short term, insurance costs/availability on oil tankers will be the variable on oil prices.

If the straight closes it’s going to cause some real oil issues.

Its effectively closed. Insurance companies won't insure ships passing through, so the shipping companies can't accept the risk. Iran is still shipping oil out to China on dark fleet tankers (that are presumably uninsured), however.

I was really looking forward to a summer of affordable fuel…

Seems like oil should be real affordable pretty quick if we are running the oil production in Venezuela and Iran I’m sure gas prices will somehow still get up near the $4 mark for the summer, Exxon/mobil is probably the stock to own for the rest of this presidency

SO here's a timing question. I need to roll $8,000 (from ETF's) out of my brokerage account into an IRA to take the tax advantage for 2025.
there's probably a 24hr delay between cashing it out and inserting it into the IRA (both Schwab, online)
I don't see a way its instantaneous. I learned about the need yesterday and have until April to do it.
Whats the advice to not inherit a loss on the downswing?

Should I sit on my hands for now?

When I move money into an IRA I just put the money in the account. I don't have to buy anything with it. Also you have until April 15.

part of the issue is I have to pull the funds out of my brokerage account that is in ETF's. I figured once it lands in the IRA i can allocate to the different funds.

reread your post, so maybe I can set it in the IRA and sit on it until the market flattens?
