The Rokslide Stock Traders Thread

time to avoid tesla lol
My only stock purchase was a couple years ago for an Ira, I put 6,500$ in Tesla, and it has done well up to recent

I almost pulled it and reinvested a couple months ago when it was worth just over 22k, but I have decided to keep it there. From a non stock trader point of view, investing in Elon still makes more sense than most things to me… what he has done and what he’s trying to do (mostly successfully) I am taking my chances

Or the non meme version: You'll never go broke taking a profit.

Carnage in the streets today. Major indices down at least 2% and Nasdaq down 4%. That's a big owie for sure.

I personally love it. I want the rising tide to float all boats but I want the stock market to follow the utlity of our economic growth and not the "irrational exuberance" of the last five-ish years and certainly not because our Treasury runs the printing pesses 24x7.

“the connection with your president

You’re drifting into partisan politics with that comment and not sticking to politics as it might affect the market. This is the stock traders thread where ideas and thoughts are shared as to the market. It certainly is not the partisan politic opinion traders thread. You aren’t adding anything useful with that post.

He is from Canada. It's our president, not his.

VTSAX is back to early November prices, erasing all gains in last 4 months. I have sold off my copper mining stocks (COPX) as base metals generally go with a strong global market and periods of growth (infrastructure building). China is forecasted to have weak growth for at least next decade and a tariff war sending up building prices doesn't look great for other products. With steel and aluminum tariffs being thrown around copper might be next .

Anyone that has watched TSLA for more than a year should know that it’s a stock that is only one tweet away from a 10-15% drop in a day. Musk has been a controversial CEO for years. What is happening is nothing new.

Zoom out. TSLA will be just fine long term. They are more than a car company.

Everyone zoom out. The SP500 is up nearly 100% since this thread started. Go back to the beginning of it. How many people popped in and said “keep your powder dry.” Haven’t seen many of them posting since.

Eh, Elon obviously doesn’t need my president, he was doing ok before he started consulting with Trump, And will continue to. That’s the beauty of their relationship, they don’t “need” each other at all, a couple of the most successful people on the planet, well before they had a relationship.

I bought my shares shortly after Elon getting X, when he was hated by a lot of people, and I knew his stock was going to swing pretty far one way or the other… I know nothing about the stock market, but that made sense to me, he is and has been doing amazing things, and I think he’s just getting started… he is a force whether you like him or not, and we need people like him moving the needle way further than most.

as i said i wish you the best on what you are buying or selling. what i just meant is we should not mix politics and market and this is what the two are doing now for the good of some but only time will tell as we all know it is on the long run we judge the outcome ...

I'm pretty new to actually paying attention to what my 401K and 457 are doing. things are not looking great in the market and it seems like things might continue to look this way for a little while. Any thoughts or pros vs cons of moving what's in my 401k and 457 from the target date fund it is currently in to bonds until things settle out? Seems like it would be wise to put into bonds, then when you think the market has bottomed out, put it back into the target date fund. But this doesn't seem to be generally recommended so I am probably missing something obvious.

this is under my impression that bonds generally do better, or at least don't lose a ton of value while my fund could lose 30% if things get real bad.

Any smarter people than myself able to offer some advice/thoughts? I am very much a rookie when it comes to this stuff.

Let her ride. Way more people have been successful just letting things roll than they have timing the market.

Time in the market beats timing the market.
