Watch it drop to 5 year lows since I mentioned it. I figured it was a buy below 15. w'ell see. Up after hours yesterday a bit

So I’m new into all this so can somebody explain why this is being bought. Seems with the sanctions and wars coming that anything Russian is gonna fall a lot farther. Please explain cause I’m really trying to learn some stuff

If it drops significantly, I'll double down.

I don't think it will go much lower. The fund had a -44% return calendar year 2014 (Crimea). It is already that much off the 52 week high.

The sanctions are targeting banks and individuals, not the underlying commodities. These are not tough, devastating sanctions. Belgium made sure there was a carve out for the diamond trade and Italy requested a carve out for luxury goods. No way they touch energy or food which make up the majority of the fund.

The exchange rate would likely be the biggest driver of any further drop, but the ruble has already been beaten down pretty good by FUD.

Germany is opposed to cutting off SWIFT as it would end their access to Russian gas.

Relevant part halfway through article.

It looks like Germany is cooperating. It will be interesting to see how this effects the Russian markets.

"... the German government has said that the ban only affects the Russian banks that were *already sanctioned* a few days ago, in other words, it is toothless as it merely hits banks that have already been sanctioned by other measures."

Amazing the lack of actual war footage in Ukraine for such a huge invasion and thousands killed
I too have thoughts on that, but let's try to keep this thread trading related.

Moex.com is currently down. Normally trading would commence in 13-1/2 hours. Tomorrow might be a FUD day.

I only mentioned it because it would definitely affect one's decision to risk investing in Russian related stocks. Not pushing any politics.

I did the same and invested heavily in April 2020 when the world was going to supposedly end from a deadly virus and it didn't meet the smell test.

Keeping politics to what effects this thread. In my opinion this is gonna escalate and I feel being very very careful with anything Russian/ Chinese would be wise. I don’t understand stocks/financial crap very well yet but military I have a better feel for. The world let Russia slide in Crimea which was a mistake and they gonna push the envelope this go around.

That does seem to be the mainstream media narrative. The fear/uncertainty/doubt (FUD) being pushed leads to market imbalances that can be exploited for profit.

Any thoughts on NIO? Near 52 week low and with oil prices on the rise...
My thought on the ev revolution is they will struggle with commodity prices rising, a lot of different metals go into the build. I think they will continue to dip, just my opinion though. Oil stocks will continue to go up as long as price doesn’t get too high ex. $150 a barrell. Then will hit recession and reset which is likely on the horizon anyways-just a matter of when within the next year.

Most EV company’s are new and don’t have large amounts of cash sitting around. I think what allowed them to shine in the last year or two was low ass interest rates. It allowed them to borrow money to further development. EV is the future, so I don’t think it’s a bad investment but I think lower prices for them are coming.

what is everyone's thoughts on GTE? Thinking about selling my initial investment and letting the rest ride for a while !
Bought at .7 ~8 months ago and it's ranged from .6-1 on an up and down ride... Curious to what others think as far as upside on this one.
