The RAVEN mini action thread

You bring out a very valid point. Probably is no real solution. And it for sure would no longer be a "Tikka".
I'd love to see a mini action in a rokstok lite. I'd order one right now.
The magazine would be the worst I'm sure. And maybe entirely impossible 🤷

It’s impossible, it’s just that there is no part of it that will be cheap, and people aren’t lining up for $3,000 mini actions.

Come on. Can't we dream?
In all honesty I'm shocked it couldn't be figured out. Of course I don't understand it all I just figured there'd be some way of doing it. And I know our only chance would be UM.
Maybe I'll hafta just build an arc on a Tikka or Raven.

I’m dreaming with you, with a 16” barrel it could be under 4.5 lbs with a wood stock. We also need a swfa SS 6x built on a 1” tube with shorter turret, could be 16 oz with rings

This setup would be popular amongst roksliders. I'm convinced.
Maybe less "shootable" than some systems, but so amazing for inside 3-400 yards. I want one for almost exclusively inside 200. Light, compact and reliable is almost non existent.

I think it is very possible to get a tikka down close to that weight. Currently I have a tikka action in a peak44 blacktooth stock with a 18" carbon PBB in 6cm. It weighs 5lbs 3oz bare rifle. If I sent my action to UM for bolt fluting, action pockets, and open the ejection port it'd cut 4 more oz and I'd be under 5lbs. And if I ran a fluted steel barrel with the right contour there's more weight to be saved.

I think that if the action is a straight copy of Tikka but shortened from the front, you could probably 3d print polymer mags that are a copy of the current factory mags but shorter. Ascension apparently has great extended coal 223 and 6arc 3d printed mags. Their new version handles temps up to 180F well, so no more heat issues. I ordered a 223 and am excited to try it.

Bottom metal could be 3d printed polymer as well.

The stock could be another rokstok/stockys deal, if UM can handle another 2 years of people bitching online. I think people would pay $550 for one.

Making a stock inlet for rokstock lite would be pretty easy. Machining an aluminum bottom metal easy. Or make a hinged floor plate bdl style. I’ve made silicone molds and poured my own plastic tikka mags/followers from epoxy resin and urethane resin. It’s super easy to do. Only issue is getting the correct springs. I’d assume UM could find a source for springs.

Have you done a thread on molding your own mags yet? Highly curious how this is done..

I was basing that of a wood stock, a mini tikka in an apple to apple comparison would be about a pound lighter.

What stocks and magazines would you use?
Ar mags could be an option

I see what you are say but there is a market for lighter rifles albeit smaller than all the carbon magnums. Also why couldn’t something in the$2000 ball park could be attained?

I'd probably save money and set one up. It'd cost around that to build an arc on a full size action and it wouldn't be near as sweet.
Talking for an ultra light backpacking build. Even just off season always on the pack type of rifle.

This would be viewed as a "custom" rifle action. $1000 for the action seems doable

The RokStok Lite will have an inlet for the Howa Mini according to the thread about it.

I've beat the drum for something like this a while but the novelty is starting to drain vs just using a slightly longer/heavier setup that doesn't efficiently use the length of the action/mag. I don't know that I'd pay a significant premium for an inch savings and frankly I don't want a rifle that is stupid light anyway.

I would love to see Sako bring back the L46/L461. The L46's had single stack metal magazines, It was chambered in 22 Hornet, 218 Bee, 222 Rem, and 222 Rem mag. In 1964 they went to the L461's, these had Bdl floor plates.
I have a Sako Vixen Heavy barrel 222 Rem L461 that my dad bought new. Perfect size action for the 222 family.
