i think it was a home-made apple pie that sealed my landowner permission for turkey and deer here in california.
this is my friend's, dad's place. funny story. my friend invited me up for turkey. we carpool together and get there early. his dad drives us to some grocery store. on the way, he says.."son, you cant keep bringing friends here, your mom gets annoyed"
i wanted to chime in and say, "hmm..sir, i'm sitting right here"
talk about awkward!! i almost left, but my friend was in my car..he didnt want to leave. the birds were blasting off in the distance too. dinner-time we cooked. (and cleaned up)..i whip out this pie for dessert. i said, "i wanted to express my thanks, so i made this pie yesteday"..
it worked..that was 2007 and i have been hunting turkey there ever since. i always bring a full meal with me..steaks, shrimp..wine for the first meal. legal turkey hunting time ends here at 4:00 pm, so i always have time to use their kitchen to roll out a kickass meal.
i also drive way out there to help out around the land. dig post holes, i helped install a windmill..i weedwacked all the super sloped areas that would oil starve his tractor.
but i still think it was that pie.
now i just buy one from the local german bakery. it is way better than mine. i pick one up this saturday..it has been ordered.
any stories about you gaining permission to some animal hunting land?
i have permission to a NM ranch. the landowner is always willing to let us get a landowner deer tag..but that just took an introduction and a bottle of canadian whiskey.
