All I hunt with is a 270win. I’ve thought about buying another rifle, but so far can’t justify it. Shooting 130gr factory Barnes ammo and it does everything I need it to.

Yup, I’ve been shooting the same 270 for 24 years. It still shoots sub-MOA with most factory loads. I’ve thought about getting some new hotness in the gun safe. Maybe one of those skinny Barnett Fieldcraft girls or a Kimber cheerleader-type. But instead I’m staying faithful and am just getting the old gal some new glass.

Great grand dad hunted with a pre-64 model 70 .270.
Grandpa hunted with that same gun.
Dad hunted with that gun.
I hunt with that same gun.

Hunt more, fuss less.

My dad gave me his tang safety Ruger m77 30-06 with a leupold vari-xii when I turned 12. 26 years later still the gun I use. Have killed everything from coyotes to mountain goats with it.

One rifle hunter here as well. Sako A7 in .270 win topped with a Leupold VX3 1.75-6x sitting in low Talley Lightweights. Federal Premium 150gr Nosler partitions for everything (which just so happens to be whitetail only at this point. Hopefully a black bear in the near future and moose when I drawn in NH or Maine and hopefully elk someday...)

Remington 700 in .270. i got it for my first year hunting when I was 12. My dad told me if I saved half he pay for the other half. I still hunt with it today. I've killed deer, elk, bear and antelope. I've killed a couple deer with a 243, but still like my 270 the best.

I am a one rifle hunter. I have a stainless Tikka T3 superlite in 30-06, with a Leupold 3-9 on top. I don't ever see a reason to upgrade. I guess I'm also a one cartridge hunter because I shoot 180 grain Barnes VorTx for everything.

I am currently a one rifle hunter, I use my Savage 111 LRH in 300 win mag for everything for the last few years. That will be changing soon as I'm tired of lugging that heavy thing around, especially on steeper/rougher hunts.

Ruger tang safety 7x57 that was my dad’s. Gave it to me when I graduated high school. Just shy of 20 years and it’s still my one and only. Dressed it up with a new scope this year, Zeiss V4 4-16 that’s been fun to stretch her legs at the range.

My wife has killed her first three elk with this rifle too.

I guy needs more than one...22lr, small bore varmint, all arounder 30 06, 270 etc, and either a long range cannon and/or ultra light packing rifle.

That said, a 49 cal Dickert style flintlock and a reworked model 70 in 280 ai get most of the work.

Half the fun is looking for the perfect rifle...always a work in process.

Thanks for this post. I'm looking to slim down my collection and purchase a new "all-around" rifle. Mainly it will be for whitetail, bear and coyote and I'm leaning towards .243 or .25-06 ...or .308 ...or....

7mm08 would be my go to in that line up.

With 140 grain Hornady SST's it's amazing on whitetails.

The only large caliber I currently own is a 308 Remington model 7.

At one time I had about 30 different calibers. Trying to keep track of bullets, primers, powder, etc just got out of hand. I started selling and just didn’t quit. I bought a new large caliber last year, didn’t really like it.

I was looking through my scope at a big griz momma this year, if she wouldn’t have had Cubs the 308 would have taken the shot. I use heavy sturdy bullets, would have done the job. I do keep eyeballing the model 7 300wsm, little more power, same platform.

So I guess I’m a one rifle hunter, for game, excluding varmints.

I have a pile of rifles that all shoot well but when it comes down to it I pick up my 6.5 gap 98% of the time since I built it, it just fits and shoots well

My grandpa was in the forest service and in 1967 he won a 7mm Weatherby Mark V in a forest service raffle. He had plenty of other rifles so it sat in its box in the closet untouched until he passed away in '96 and it was then handed down to my uncle who still didn't shoot it and then gave it to me as a high school graduation present in' 02. I scraped up some money and put a $200 Bushnell Elite on there and as my only rifle I have killed Mule deer, whitetail, and elk with it.

However, I was always nervous carrying it in the woods worrying about dropping and breaking it just because of its sentimental value. So as of this week I bought a new Leupold VX3i for the weatherby and put that old Bushnell on a Ruger .270 that I feel more comfortable throwing on the floor of the pickup and using as a walking stick coming down the mountain. The Weatherby will still make it into the woods though, it's nowhere near retirement.
