I am really enjoying the thread and especially all the archery wisdom being shared on here... I'm a self-taught archery guy and its great to read up on a lot of this info to help with my own shooting! Keep up the good work Cindy! Pretty soon your pin will be on fur! ;)

Cindy-

Looks like you are coming along well, and you are going to love the Timberline 2. Same pack I have and it carries weight like a dream! Aron can answer all your questions but you can PM me too if you run into trouble with anything.

Wow, is all I can say. Things are coming along nicely! We will be expecting live updates as the hunt progresses!

Awesome thread! When do we start discussing mule deer hunting tactics and mule deer behavior?

Update

The opener is coming on fast and I'm crazy busy gathering gear, exercising, hiking, shooting my bow, dehydrating some FBC meals and being MOM!

A couple of upcoming gear posts will be about the shelter (of which I'm stoked about) and optics. I'm having fun shopping for gear that's for sure!

Just curious Cindy, is your hunt going to be filmed?? It was probably addressed already, but I must have missed it.

Titanium Goat Vertex 7.5 Shelter & Cylinder Stove

A big thank you to Doug at Titanium Goat for sponsoring the Mule Deer Project with a Vertex 7.5 tipi and a cylinder stove.

So far I love the tipi. It is light weight, easy to set up and roomy inside. Doug also sent a carbon fiber tent pole which is super light weight and works perfectly.

The stove was challenging to set up the first time. I could have used some extra hands but none were home at the time. Once I got it set up it was solid. I did have some extra hands to help roll the chimney pipe and that went smoother. Burned the stove a couple of times. It works great! The back yard is fun but I'm excited to get out in the field and use this equipment.

I have some fun pictures but photobucket isn't working for me today. As soon as possible I'll get some pics posted up.

Thanks again Doug for a great product and your generous sponsorship!

Vortex Optics

I'd like to thank Mark at Vortex Optics for his help.

Here is what I chose for optics:

Bino's: Razor HD 10x42
Spotter: Razor HD 20-60x85 Straight
Tripod: High Country

I chose these because I think they will serve me well on this mule deer hunt and even better for the bulk of my other hunting. Vortex makes quality optics and they have an awesome warranty. The price was also a factor.

Have read that in the book, good info for sure. Part of a DL sentence stated he ends his morning session at around 9 a.m.. I will look at the book this evening unless someone chimes in with the answer to this...At 9 is he just intending to go onto phase 3 and/or is that the time he will make a move, "if necessary" to get closer as the thermals "may" have stabilized. I realize each situation is different as is each weapon on the need to get closer for a shot opportunity.

Sorry guys......been away for a while. Lot of things going on.....buying and selling houses, traveling for work, etc.

Cindy and I have visited on a few things and I have had her read some of my articles. More importantly, we have been scrambling trying to get her hunt lined out. Originally, we had hoped that either Cindy's husband or brother would be accompanying her on her hunt......as it turns out, neither one can make it. Therefore, we have been trying to select an outfitter who may be able to help out.

The fact that Cindy's hunt starts in a little over a week has put a little pressure on us! Hopefully we will have something worked out within the next day or two.
