The best electric vehicle? Ram1500 ramcharger?

Looks like the nerds at Stellantis (Dodge parent company) are coming out with what appears to be a gas/electric ram 1500. V6 motor running at its most efficient RPM charging a battery and running an electric drive train. This is similar to how diesel electric trains operate. if this gets anywhere near the projected 690 miles of rage this would be a serious game changer and push other manufacturers to go this route.

if this spurs more companies to do the same im all for it. i hope one day we can get to 1000miles per tank with this sort of hybrid

By contrast, I have a Toyota hybrid from 2015 and its fantastic. They really got a jumpstart on hybrid tech with the success of the Prius. When I bought, all the other manufacturers were lagging significantly behind. Your experience seems to suggest that Chrysler, at least, still hasn't caught up.

If it was anyone but Stelantis, I'd be more excited. This is the way to do trucks not only for ridiculous reliability long term if done right, but who doesn't want a full size that only costs them $10-15 a week to drive?
Besides the fact that I'd never own a product by that company, the fact that it only comes in an ultra short bed, to me, means they think their market is people that think they need a truck, but would be better off with the mini van from Toyota in hybrid, their pride just won't allow it.
This is not aimed at people that use their truck for any sort of work, which is unfortunate. Because there's a lot of awesome things a hybrid like this can add for functionality and making work easier. Look at all the cool things Edison motors is doing with their Semi Truck that's just like this.

Be interesting to see how big the gas tank is, the 690 mile range is a combination of electric and fuel. Similar to the Ford Powerboost.

There are plenty of truck buyers who don't utilize a large bed. Suburbanites who haul campers and toy haulers, people in wintery climates who like the traction, 4 wheel drive, and ground clearance, southerners who drive trucks because. . . they're southerners, and others who just plain like 'em.

My truck is a tool to do work, so I'm not the target market for this either, but my guess is that people who get paid to do market research and crunch numbers have concluded that those are the buyers who are most likely to be early adopters of the hybrid technology. People like you and me may not be drooling over this thing, but we need the early adopters to prove the concept is commercially viable, to bring down the cost of the tech, and fund the development that ultimately allows the tech to spread into the rest of the market. . . meaning you and I have to let other people buy these trucks so that we can have access to well designed hybrid work trucks in the future.

Friends don’t let friends buy Stellantis products.

If I made a list of reputable auto manufacturers who have consistently come out with innovations that have panned out, Stellantis wouldn’t make the list. They need to get their current issues and “innovations” figured out before doing anything new.

That said, the concept is cool. I would take an HD pickup from a reputable manufacturer with this tech if it was executed correctly (6.7 power stroke King Ranch with hybrid tech sounds pretty sweet). There’s just no way that Stellantis will execute it correctly based on their track record.

I used to have a volt, cool car.

I also did a bolt + f150 for commuting to work and then the f150 for hunting/home farm etc. that worked well.

But I’d love to have the volt concept for a truck. Small Generator at optimal range seems to work really well and genuinely make a better end result.

I’m very pro ev where it makes the end experience better. I like commuting in the bolt, but understand it doesn’t work for all career types and localities.

Still no place to charge an ev around me so outside of a few cities and towns its a non-starter. I also seriously question how anything electric handles towing. Understand this is a hybrid, just need to understand the actual real-life implications of having a dead battery, a big boat in tow, and a 200 mile drive home that doesnt pass a charging station.

I see the Stellantis hate but my 2015 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 with 170k miles is still serving me well. Meanwhile, my "new" 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 was sidelined for a month waiting on a fuel pump control module and now class actions suits floating around on the transmission and the 6.2 motor. Glad I kept the Ram when I bought the like new/low mileage GMC last year.

Not so much hate, just disappointed. I still own 2018 Megacab 6.7, been a good truck so far. That said I did purchase a 150,000 mile warranty from ram (covers everything) during covid for song and dance. It's good til 27. Now it's a wait and see game .
