That's funny, I was actually asking ai about the 22 saw the other day.
Wondering how it compares in a 16" barrel to a creedy.

@Formidilosus has there been any forward progress on this? Possibly landed on a new parent cartridge to try out?
Not really. I will try a straight 22UM or 22UM-30° next, probably along with a 22-06 or AI version. The real issue is optimum bullets. The 88gr ELD-M is finicky enough that depending on it isn’t the way. A 90gr or 95gr SMK with nose ring may work. The is also a potentially new bullet going to be about this year. Right now, I would still choose the 77gr TMK.
A 22-06AI would be very cool to see. I've got a big pile of 30-06 brass that I've been thinking about getting a 25-06AI to load for, but would love to see what happens with 22-06AI.
With the 88 being finicky, it sure seems in my opinion that the juice might not be worth the squeeze on a 22 hot rod. Couldn't a guy just shoot the 6mm 95 TMK and be just as well off? Same BC as the 80 gr hornady, better than the 77. That was partly my reason for switching back to the 6 creed barrel at the end of this season. 88 was too finicky in the 22 creed, 95 TMK in the 6 creed was easy and was real close ballistically to the 80 or better than the 77.Not really. Why a 22-06ai instead of a 22-6.5prc or similar? Is it more about case geometry or just case volume?I think, it will work out better than most options for that powder volume.

If a guy was going to build this, what length barrel and what twist rate would make the most sense to take a stab at both the 77’s and 88’s?

22-284 is another one that’s been done before and very viable in that case size range.
What velocity are you seeking and what bullet? It is, but doesn’t get the MV I am seeking.

My 22-250AI shoots the 90 grain ATip at 3360,but with a 25” barrel.
3,500fps MV with a 20” barrel. 85+ grain bullet.
This pretty much matches what .220 Swift was doing with 55gr bullets, and much longer barrels. Getting that MV out of a 20" barrel with heavies would be killer.
What about using something in 28 or one of the other calibers that have better brass now?Indeed. The original case for the UM was a 26 Nosler. If the brass was better, it would have been relatively easy to achieve.
