I started my own thread, but figured I’d jump in here since I’m starting my way through this archive. I built this custom Axis up in a wildcat cartridge I designed. It’s a standard short action, and I wanted something new so I’ve decided to go with a 16.5 inch 5r8 Xcaliber blank being turned by a friend.

I used to clean my rifles after every couple hundred rounds. Then Form showed me the light.
Just clean the action and chamber.

I've been a proponent of not cleaning for a long time, but I did have a 6.5x284 that liked to develop carbon rings.

Never an issue with 223, 6.5 grendel, creed or 308. Overbore seems to bring it on. Will see with these 22cm barrels though, so far so good.

Nowadays I’ll clean a new barrel a couple times at the start then let it run. As long as it maintains its accuracy level or gets subjected to crap getting in it, keep hammering. If I have to for some reason I may run a wet & dry patch thru but rarely deep clean unless something drastic happens.
All depends on the particular barrel.

All depends on the particular barrel.

There are two times when you NEED to clean a barrel. When it is brand new and when the accuracy changes. Scrub all the oil, dust, manufacturing remnants, and other goodies out of the barrel and chamber when you first get the barrel. You will be amazed at what you find in some barrels... Then just shoot the thing until your accuracy changes for the worse or you have an issue with feeding/extracting or pressure (Carbon ring). I am a fan of using a bore snake after a target session just to get any loose carbon out of the bore as carbon likes to absorb water. Other than that, I don't clean a barrel unless there is a major issue. Shoot more, fuss less.

Took my dad's Sig 22 Creed out for some varmint control. Spotted a badger and sent a 69 ELDVT through its chest. No fuss at 150 yards.

His rifle shoots the factory Hornady 69 V-Match ammo really well. I ended up just picking up 400 rounds for him.

Anyone use H1000 in their 22 creed?

I decided to try out some 80 eldms.

I did a ladder of N555 and H1000.

I didn’t find pressure. But looked like the H1000 shot pretty good in the ladder I thought.

Yep. I liked it with the 88’s.
43.5gr H1000.
16” barrel: 2935fps

44.0gr gave 2999fps.

80eldm and 43.5gr of h1000 in Hornady brass shoots well in mine with a fed210

Anyone try 570 and 88's? I was able to drop tube Vhits max charge into the cases. Loaded up 10 to give a try. Also Grand and Staball 6.5. 565 has been my go to. When I got this barrel I didn't look too closely into talk about how picky Hornady bullets are. So I assumed it was a powder issue. I stupidly concluded that my barrel only liked n565. But now with the 88 TMKs I want to revisit some of the powders that could give me some speed.
H1000 will be on the list too. Ran out of brass though.
