The 22 creedmoor thread

What is the ideal free bore for the 80 and 88 eld’s? My gunsmith just informed me he only has the saami at .80” and my shooting partners tell me .120” minimum ideally .169”.

Never shot 88s but the 80s rolled great out of my Horizon. I have 2 PBB barreled 22CMs on tikka actions at .081 FB. Have yet to shoot, but will tomorrow if weather holds.

Idk if it helps you or not. But a factory Hornady precision match with 80gr eldm goes 1.9700 CBTO with an COAL of 2.5950 with my tools.

Just an FYI. Slightly pricey but they do 5 - 10% sales every now and then it seems. Disregard if already posted here

Ordered a .22 caliber 1 in 8 twist stainless Krieger barrel #4 sporter contour. A #4 measures .670 at the muzzle. First time using a Krieger for me. Not to concerned with weight as most of the time the rifle will be carried on a ATV or snowmobile. Plan is to have my smith finish it up at 24 inches. Donor rifle will be a left hand stainless Tikka T3x 6.5 CM. Kreiger quoted 4-5 month delivery time. Plan is to have my local smith do the chambering and barrel install work. Ordered a 3 piece set of Redding dies that include the micrometer seating die adjustment.
Contacted McMillan and ordered a lefty Game Warden stock which should be here about the same time as the barrel. Now just need to find a decent deal on a left hand Tikka 6.5 to use as a donor.
For glass I will pick something in 5x20 range. Never owned a scope higher than 16X before but hoping this rig turns out to be a good shooter.

Why does the donor need to be a 6.5 Creed? Any 308 case head size will do. Unless you want a 6.5 take off barrel?

It doesn't. I will buy whatever model is cheaper when I find it.
I take into consideration the resale value of the barrel too. A slow twist 243 or 22-250 won't sell for much, but the 6.5's and fast twist 22/243's are pretty desirable.

Anybody care to share velocities using factory ammo and 16”-18” barrels?

18” Horizon Vandal C that did 3150 with 80eldm precision match and 3250 with 69gr eldvt precision varmint.

Breaking in 2 new 18” PBB barrels right now and both are doing 3120 with 80gr eldm precision match.

Plan to hand load after I get some brass built up. Should be able to get 73gr eldm close to 3300fps out of 18” is my goal

I see preferred offers a .169 22cm smk freebore, is that better for the 88tmk loads if I ordered ammo from UM or copper creek or stick with the .120 as that's still fine for 88s (I'm going to be trying 80 eldms too). fingers crossed federal come out with a gold medal 22cm 88 tmk and 6cm 107 tmk factory load

So there we see a sample of velocities for factory ammo - pretty much limited to 80grain bullets on the heavy end.

What are handloaders seeing with the other bullets?
Bullet?
Barrel length?
Powder?
Velocity?

My 16.25" shot really well today pushing the 88TMK at 2845fps cooking N560. Virgin brass, sub 100 rds on the barrel. Reasonable ES, low SD.
