The 22 creedmoor thread

The cats prefer them over venison.
Yeah the chassis is a bit agricultural but gets it done. Got a hunt 26 for the next one but will be keen to see some decent pics of the new MTN folder
Being a third lighter than the HNT26 with folder and quite a bit stiffer foreend with a better folding hinge it should do well. The buttstocks an acquired taste but it should ride a bag and saves a rather large amount of foam weight.

Is there any general consensus on expected barrel life on a 22CM? Assuming this is not handloading for the hottest rounds. Thinking through trying to get sufficient same lot ammo/components for the life of a barrel.

Would 3k be reasonable or to much to expect?

I think 8-1200 is more reasonable

From what I've seen mentioned, 1200 to 1800 is a reasonable expectation before throat erosion effects accuracy. This is all dependant upon rate of fire.

its all about speed. How fast you push the bullet, how fast you shoot the rifle and how fast you forget to clean it.

Plan is factory ammo so not pushing it too hard, shot strings no more than 5 at a time. Likely never clean it.

I know none of this is exact, just kind of trying to get in the ball park sounds like maybe 800-1200 on the 22CM and 1500-2k on the 6?

That’s about right. Every barrel is different and depending on your accuracy requirements it may go a bit longer.

Didn’t plan ahead very well and realized I only had 5 rounds left of my 62 ELDVT load that I use for thermal hunting. Luckily I had 100 rounds of Texas Ammunition 80 gr ELDs on my shelf.

Quick check to zero and was happy to see POI was pretty much the same as my 62s at 100. Velocity of 3260 out of my 22” barrel.

Hoping to have a few coyotes come in tonight with the thermal.

That's handy! Curious about your 62gr load if you don't mind. I have a 22cm with Karl now and it won't be here in time for deer but a 62 and coyotes sure sounds fun.

I’m using Alpha SRP, CCI 450, and 39.0 gr of Varget. 22” barrel yields 3654 fps.

It’s been a pretty wicked combo for coyotes, fox, and other varmints. I shot a jackrabbit last night at a confirmed 450 yards and the impact was impressively audible.

Barrels are easy to get and easy to replace. I would not worry about barrel life at this point; deal with it when, and if, the day comes when you start seeing a loss in accuracy.

Yea Im not worried about having to replace. More just curious what to expect.

One of our ranch hands hit a deer with the truck and horse trailer yesterday morning, so I went out and drug it to a pasture to watch over.

Went out late last night and there was a coyote on the carcass. I somehow missed it and while scanning, saw what looked like another coyote at 200 yards. This time was a hit - walked up and turned out to be a fox. The 80 gr ELDM absolutely wrecked it.

Had another fox come in later at a different stand and I was using my 300 BLK with 110 gr Varmageddons. No gaping holes (tiny exit with some pooled blood) and the pelt looks awesome. Will be skinning this one out later today.

As has been mentioned in another thread - 22 CM does not play well with foxes if you’re planning to save pelts.

What is everyone using for .22 Creed prefits? Would be for an Impact 737. The Preferred Barrel Blanks seem intriguing for the price and they have 4 reamer options. Seems like a no brainer?

My Preferred Tikka prefit shoots well, and I’m happy with it. Sample size of 1. I’m going to buy a couple blanks from them to test further.

Preferred is great. And cheap if you buy from LS Wild on here.
