The 22 creedmoor thread

How many of you having issues with the 88 eld-m are guys slangin them with a 1:8.

Previously I had a bunch of 1:7 barrels and shot 88 eld-m, 90 A-Tips and 95 smk and never lost a bullet. (Muzzle velocity between 3080 and 3180)
Have since dropped down to 1:8 and 75 eld-m, 77 tmk and 80 eld-m( the 75 “outruns” it’s larger brethren and kill just dandy) it’s also a great crossover bullet
for shooting coyotes and can be launched at Mach Jeezus take the wheel.

If The 1:8 is marginally stable with the 88 and that might lead to marginal results on target.
Although they might be more prone to tumbling which could also be beneficial.
This new Sierra 88 will likely make it moot but just something I’ve been chewing on with these increasing reports of on game and reloading bench issues.

My 1-7 barrel didn't like them. On the last S2H podcast they mentioned that sometimes seating adjustments in a big move can improve a load. I was seating at 20 thou but maybe 60 would be better? But this pipe is halfway through its life so I'm not going to waste anymore life trying to play with them.

You’re close enough 30 thou was always a good starting point
No good for hunting but they almost always shot with a bit of jam too.

8lbs 8oz. That's with a 16"barrel, 26.5oz stock, stock t3x action, empty 3 Rd mag, 14oz suppressor, UM rings, 24oz scope.

A titanium suppressor next summer will bring it in right at 8. Would have to cut at the scope, action or rings after that and I'm not willing to make those changes.

@HighUintas you got me. I once chopped a stockys vg off about 4" in front of the mag to save a few ounces and thought that was extreme.
It's a bit short in LOP, but I did go out and put up a 1" ten shot group with it and a 6.5cm barrel. It certainly doesn't affect accuracy from a bench. I sort of want to try it in the hills hunting rocks and see what it's like to carry.

You made a great looking stock, by th way

I assume you strap that to a 7,000+ ci pack full of your fears that weighs 50lbs? I think that's what real mountain hunters do.

To keep this on track though, we shot some whitetail does tonight with the 174 eldvt, 300wm. For science. After shooting the 22 creed all season I was expecting some shock and awe. Not so much. 2 of the 3 does ran farther than any I shot with the 22 creed this year.

Wonder who has the lightest 22 creed on here. I'd like to set up a tikka that'd be 7-8lb complete. Make it easier for the kids to carry.
My 18” preferred with “weight reducing fluting” showed up Friday and will be spun on a superlight with stockys VG. Now to find someone to install it ASAP. Rifle has a 17 ounce Meopta 4.5-14x44 now abut I will be swapping for a 25oz credo HX 4-16x50.

Juan_ID I put together a 22 arc. 18” gas gun shooting 75 eldm at 2950. Where I’m at that puts me to 700 give or take. 22 cm got me to a little better then 800 shooting the 75’s at 3200. 22 cm was burning about 13 more grains of powder and I was getting about 900-1000 rounds out of a barrel before I was getting a drop in accuracy. That was average for 3 barrels I went through. Decided the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze.

That’s awesome! Any pressure signs and what powder?

Well, I worked up to that load. Saw pressure at a little higher powder charge of course. Decided to put together a bolt gun as well. Getting 3100 out of the 18” bolt gun at the Hornady book max load of CFE223.

Using CFE223 in the gas gun too.

I’ve seen the same with the arc and creed although I still run both

Both 18” bolt guns on tikka actions with bullets from the same lot.

22ARC 80eldm 31gr cfe223
3090fps
22creed 80eldm 48gr RS Grand
3290fps

The creed uses 17gr more powder and gives an extra 200fps in shorter barrels

That about what I seeing as well.

How do you have your 22 arc set up in the tikka?

About to start my first creedmoor build and looking for advice.

Im gonna be using a criterion shouldered prefit. My question is about which freebore to go with on my chamber. There is an .080 or a .169 reamer.

Barrel will be 18-19", 1/8" twist. I would like to shoot the 88 eld-m, but if i need to I will use the 80 or 75s.

I'm leaning toawrds the .080 to not have to chase the lands constantly. This will be mag fed from AICS pattern mags as well, so that limits me on COAL.

I run an 18”, 8twist, 80 freebore. You can pretty much seat everything above the neck shoulder junction except the 88eldm,90atip,90smk,90gr berger. They will be seated deeper than you want in the case but I ran the 90smks in the 80 FB just fine.

You shouldn’t have to chase the lands. Mine has 650rounds on it and I just loaded up the last 500 all the same coal in 500pcs of peterson brass.

You shouldn't have any coal restrictions with aics 2.980” mags

19 shots. Half ran at arc speeds and half sped up closer to cm speeds. Same charge. Think some brass has a neck tension issue. Got 60 more to have everything fireformed and I’ll get a bit more serious. IMG_1437.jpeg
