The 22 creedmoor thread

My UM barrel is throated for the 88’s, which it doesn’t particularly like. The 77 TMK and 80 ELD-M shoot very well though, even with that long freebore. I wouldn’t stress too much. It seems like if your barrel doesn’t like one projectile, there’s others with more or less bearing surface etc that will.

Yeah, its not like 77 TMKs are close to the lands of a 556 or Wylde chamber loaded to AR mag length. Some jump isn't the end of the world.

Kid got her first deer last night!
After hunting hard all day hiking about five miles I was like 2 points are fair game on the way back to the truck!
This guy appeared from no where behind us at about 100 yards, maybe a tad more.
Impact was in front of front shoulder at the base of the neck bone. Instantly dumped him.
Berger 85.5. Impact velocity around 2860.

When we got to the buck we couldn't find an entrance or an exit wound. Zero blood on the body.

Also shot a couple dogs at about the same distance. Worked good.

First pic is the offside wound

I'm fortunate, the 88's + H4350 are shooting good enough in my 1-7.5" Preferred prefit. Most 10 rd groups are ~ 1.25", I figure a 30 rd would be ~ 1.6-1.75".

Not amazing, but just good enough that I don't feel like it's otherwise holding me back. I just came across some H4831SC that I'll try after this hunting season.

I took it antelope hunting this week and the 88's terminal performance was phenomenal. Took a buck at 440 and a doe at 568, two finger size exit wound on both. Very short distance traveled after the shots, and saw placement of both bullets on their targets clearly.

Sounds like if you can get the 88s to shoot they kill very well. My gun seems to like the 88s and I was planning on trying to load the 80eldx since its been mentioned they have better or more reliable terminal performance but seeing the results guys are getting with the 88s I will run them for my next couple hunts. Moose, muley, and whitetail coming up in a couple weeks, at some point I'll try the 80x but I've got this set up dialed in and would rather not rush a load development before my trip. Has anyone actually had a failure to upset with the 88 or any other "failures" or is it just a case of the 88s performing good on game and the 80x just a little gooder?

I am running the 88’s over h4350 as well, what charge weight are you running and what speeds?

I'll add, based on speed and charge it's likely 65k+ psi. Traditional pressure signs aren't jumping out. Could maybe have slightly more radius left on the primer, but that's it. But...I know I'm on the edge and I know sometimes that can bite you.
