Might have to load up 20 88 eldms and a max charge of n565 and revaluate with a larger sample. Speed looks good. Wind picked up and was kind of all over the place at about 10-15. Not optimal.
Tried a grain under and it was pure .
My 80 grain eldx will be here in a couple days. Probably should go ahead and order some TMKs. Then just pick a few of the more potentially good powders with each bullet.

Trying to get the bullet you want to shoot to work sometimes is like the hot chick back in high school. No matter what you do she won't go out with you But she'll hook up with your buddy just fine

My thoughts are to stick with H1000 to get better case fill and potentially extend barrel life with the cooler powder vs H4350...

80X and 80M were terrible in my barrel. Luckily, 88’s shoot plenty good and 77 TMK shot good for a backup. I wonder if the 80’s don’t get along with certain reamers or if they are just a picky bullet or what the reason is.

I did measure 88’s as consistently half thou larger diameter than all other .224 bullets. I could see that making them picky.

I’ve had barrels that wouldn’t shoot the 88s or 80 Xs very well. I’ve had barrels that shot them both fantastic. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to it in what I’ve seen. This is with both aftermarket brands and factory tikka/sako. Twists of 7, 7.5, and 8.

The Xs in particular have been a pain. I’ve heard the same from others with 88s but they’ve been more consistently accurate for me than the 80 Xs. The 80 Ms have done well so far in several preferred barrels prefits. Probably the next “easiest” to get to shoot other than the Bergers which just seem to shoot very well.

77 TMKs just seem to work in nearly all barrels. They also continue to impress in off season gel/medium tests as well as on animals. Like stupidly consistent both in general accuracy and killing shaped wounds.

And at mid DA with an 18” barrel and hunting safe load it’s a bullet that will kill past 700 yards at mid DA.

Does holding 1.1 MILs for the 88 ELDM at 10 MPH full value versus 1.4 MILs for the same shot with 77 TMKs make or break a kill shot at 750? Maybe? Probably not though. Lots of other things are going to make me miss over a .3 MIL better wind bullet.

This was my reason for just loading what I know typically works in most every gun. Marginal gains and a PITA to load. Having said that, we all love tinkering, probably to a fault.

I’m so guilty of tinkering and thinking I need the best BC possible in order to be able to kill a damn animal haha. Those gay little 77s are brutal bastards.

Have you tried the 80.5 Berger’s? Better BC than the 77 TMK and they come unwound pretty good in critters

Not yet on animals but their behavior is known.

The 80.5s and 115s will kill some animals this year as a friend at Berger would like some reports.

Yea I’m shooting them at 3300 with 40 grains of H4350. They have been crazy accurate. I killed coyotes from 40 yards to 814 yards last year.

Pretty nasty exits? I’ve killed a pile of coyotes with 80x’s and 75M’s… seemed like if you kept it shoulder forward they killed extremely well and weren’t too messy… not that it’s a big deal either way..but pickup bed gets pretty gruesome after a contest

No not bad exits. Most shots they didn’t exit. I shot One at 814 last year and the exit was about a 2 inch hole.

Mine are seated 50 thou off the lands. But I don’t think they are sensitive to seating depth

Hey guys I’m the new guy here but have been shooting for 50 years.
Recently rebarreled my Tikka 22-250 to 1-8 twist 24” 22 Creed. I loaded up some 85.5 gr Berger’s with 42 gr of RS Grand seated to 2.700” to do the barrel break in. Just wondering what your guys thoughts are on this load for break in.
I’m really hoping after I get the barrel broke in I can get close to 3300 with either Grand or RL26.
