Thanksgiving Pig Hunting

Yes, double lung and just missed the heart.

Interesting though, the .40 caliber bullets were all stopped between the hide and the rib cage. None of them penetrated more than an inch or two.

Yes on hogs you need to order some Buffalo Bore hard cast ammo. That is what I carry in my .40 S&W Glock.

Dang! That's a hunt to remember! I was on a pig hunt with a buddy once and he shot through his whole quiver and was picking up arrows he had already ran through the hog to finish him off! They are tough SOB's

Great read Doug. Tough SOB's is an under statement.

If that is the Kuiu rain jacket, how did it do hunting in it in the rain?

It is the Kuiu jacket. I was dry and it worked as advertised. If you are hiking a lot, you need to vent it through the pit zips as I was starting to sweat. Once I did that, that helped the air flow and I was fine after that.

Holy Shit Doug. Glad you are OK. Just confirms my assessment that pigs are the toughest critter in the lower 48! I recently bought a little 44 mag carbine for similar follow up jobs. Had a few hairy ones, but not that bad. Out of curiousity, what kind of .40 cal rounds did you use? Some sort of defense hollow points? I used to carry a .40 for follow up and always loaded fmj's for penetration. Cast bullets would be even better.

They were my duty rounds from work as it was my off duty gun. I don't usually take it into the field, but I wanted something for in the brush. They were just federal law enforcement rounds that are 180 grain hollow points.
