To y'all in Texas flooding area, Good Luck. I just talked to my sister, located in Northwest Houston, what a mess. Hopefully the rains will let up. She said they're at about 31" of rain so far. Unbelievable!

It's just going to get worse, local PDs are asking anyone with aluminum/air boats to help out with rescue

The amount of rain we've gotten is incomprehensible. I am dry and with power, very thankful. Trying to take in two families that we know who were evacuated this morning (opening dams) but having trouble finding a route.

South of Lake Conroe is going to be in rough shape, just saw pic from the dam release, they are @ full release and water levels are still rising.

I just finished working the last 30 hours with first responders here...as bad as it looks on television, trust me, it's a lot worse. Hundreds of people stranded with no way of getting out, and rain still coming down.

I am here and it's bad. Really cranking this morning.

On a positive note: my wife and the Girl Scout troop she leads fed venison tamales to a large group of evacuees at a shelter yesterday.

Outdoorsmen from around the area are coming out of the woodwork to rescue people that are trapped by high water. Very cool to see how folks are helping each other.

The cleanup effort will be massive. Thousands of folks that have never flooded in decades are getting feet of water in their homes.

It's terrible I'm on the east side of Houston. Heard reports of little over 41 inches in our neighborhood. But I've been stuck at work since Saturday. My heart goes out to all of the people who have lost everything

I heard on the radio this morning that some parts of the state might have 50 inches before its all said and done. My heart goes out to everyone who is in the affected area having their lives turned upside down, and for the people close by doing so much to help. Our church has a strong network of relief workers who are already planning the best way to get into the area to help clean and repair. I'm sure its the same across the country.

A fix back east
50 inches of rain is just ... incomprehensible to me. To me, a 3-4 inch rain total is a lot. I can't even imagine what my neighborhood would look like with ten times that.

Thoughts go out to everyone involved in dealing with this catastrophe.

Yeah. To put it in perspective, our avg ANNUAL rainfall is 47".

I'm North of Houston in The Woodlands area. Montgomery County released an alert that they were completely out of barricades to close off flooded streets. Drive with caution! The amount of closed/flooded roads is staggering!

Fine near me, but I'm on high point. I am hearing that anything down around Spring Creek is in trouble. I know there is no way across it. All roads/bridges South are closed.

Thankfully our area southwest of Houston hasn't been too bad. But the rivers are pretty much all predicted to crest, which will put a lot of homes under water. I pray that doesn't happen, but right now it seems imminent.

My sister had to leave her house this morning, she lives in Northwest Houston, Bearcreek area. The water wasn't in her house yet...but close. She said they were at 34" of rain.

Members of the "Cajun Navy" deployed in Houston to assist. These volunteers have experience with their shallow-water-drive boats and air boats at doing this rescue/recovery stuff. Many have worked with Game & Fish on several occasions to provide a valuable service.

Sadly, it was reported some members took fire from a local group of looters! WTF? Heard something about some criminal minded types who attempted to, or wanted to take over there boats. The report said they are now being redeployed in another area. Reminds me too much of New Orleans during Katrina. The helicopter rescue crews also took fire while trying to save people. Certainly not typical behavior, as most of the residents were very happy to be transported out of danger. Pissed off that this kind of shit happens at a time when people need to come together.

The overall community response seems to be overwhelmingly positive, lots of good samaritans out there - hopefully the ******s trying to loot and rob are the ones that end up drowning.

Every Texas sportsman that I know that owns a shallow water boat is down there right now. They have all been put to work.

I'm in Spring - Montgomery County just east of 45
We are in between Spring Creek and San Jac river. Fortunately we are on high ground as well.
Spring Creek has swallowed a couple of neighborhoods close to us. Pretty much every way in or out is under water.

With the rain lightning up the water should start to recede soon
