Just pointing out that in my experience, people who talk like that are usually the least successful hunters. That’s all, no contest. I’ll keep shooting an aoudad each year and I’ll do what I please with it in the confines of the local laws.
I already said, “you do you.” I am not saying you are wrong. It’s just not for me.
You sound like you are looking for some sort of justification for your position. Perhaps you aren’t as confident that you are right as you project? That’s the only reason I can think of for you to imply that because I am a “meat hunter” I must not be very successful.
I’ve done enough killing (mostly inedible two-legged animals) for one lifetime. My success in life certainly isn’t defined by someone else on the internet. And it’s not defined by triumphing over a deer, elk, or any other game animal.
I hunt for meat. I don’t kill for sport. I do kill nuisance species when given the opportunity. The past few days, I’ve been shooting spotted lantern flies with a salt rifle. The next time I go to the farm, I’ll keep an eye out for groundhogs and coyotes.
I don’t know how you define a “successful hunter”, in my opinion it means bringing back meat. A hunter who has to buy chicken or beef if he wants to eat meat isn’t much of a hunter. I kill the number of male deer the state allows me to take off my land. When I tag out, I stop hunting them.
Again, you do you. But when I look in the mirror, I don’t have to justify dragging all my deer back and butchering them. I would have to justify leaving them to rot in the field.
