Terminus Zeus quick change explanation

In the shooting world. Look up switch lug, bar loc. even more prevalent on some of the bigger tactical names.

In the competition shooting world it seems most still prefer a barrel torqued on. Just from the little Iv seen. If these things were the hot item everyone would have one and you would see more offering prefits for them.

Anymore I’m trying to simplify my setup as much as possible.
Yes, there must be some limitations to these systems. If these things were as secure as a traditionally screwed on and torqued barrel I’d think you’d be hearing more about them. Just for the sake of being user friendly, no vice or action wrench needed. If they really worked as well I’d think it would make other ways of installing a prefit barrel obsolete.

The only real limitations on good ones- AI, etc. is that people don’t shoot enough for quick change barrels mattering for replacement, and that on all of the common ones you have to rezero, so switching cartridges isn’t a big draw. From a reliability standpoint AI’s is certainly there. But, people (hunters) don’t shoot enough for it to matter. Also, you have a very real belief that sending a rifle to a smith is “custom”. For just replacing shot out barrels, the standard prefits done on a tailgate is just fine.

If we ever got an American version of the Sauer 404, Blaser R8, or Sako 100 where scope and barrel stayed together and absolute return to zero was assured- I would be all over it.

Form, have you ever seen one vibrate or shoot loose? Or come loose unintentionally somehow?

AI’s seems the same as Terminus’, from what I can tell. No?

AI is not the same as a Terminus. The AI clamps around the barrel, not a set screw. And no, there are no issues wity absolute abuse with them. I have not used a Terminus to state emphatically, however I would say that it’s not going to be anywhere near what am AI is.

Ahh, ok. I was over assuming since the barrel tenon threads look similar and the screws are in the same location.

Yeah, the AI’s work more like LMT monolithic AR’s- the receiver clamps on the barrel. They’re not moving.

Yes, that clamping method certainly looks far more secure. Does AI make a more “traditional” hunting rifle? Or a stand alone action that can be built into one? Everything I’ve seen from them ain’t my jam.

No. Unfortunately. The original bonded action AI’s are the most reliable and durable bolt actions ever made.
