They bend pretty easily, already tried some, sorry to bring the bad news

I've heard that from a couple people but I've used them in rocky ground with out any issues.

If the ground is rocky you can usually find rocks to tie to around camp.. Tie some cord to a 10 lb rock then roll the rock so that the cord is coming out the bottome side of the rock... Works almost as good as tent stakes...
