Telling someone you have 'ignored' them = name calling?

Being an argumentative type that doesn't let things go well, I use the ignore function as a courtesy to the rest of RS.

I have only found one that was annoying enough to put on ignore.

I did have new neighbors that I told them to forget I was ever born and then blocked them on emails and phone calls. Life has been much nicer with no lectures. All hemiroids need to be cured.

I mean I let everyone yell it is a forum, I can tell you, you will get a timeout for calling some one an R-tard even if they are displaying really stupid idiotic behavior… so name calling does not pay

For anyone just coming in. Is telling someone you are ignoring them a form of lashing out, or is it good manners to let someone know you will no long be looking at anything they post?

IMHO, general politeness would be to first ensure there's no confusion as to the communications in questions (eg: it's easy to mis-interpret text) by asking them to clarify. If they clarify, and you still think "yo, this dude/dudette is an a**, I got better things to do with my life than listen to their s**t", then I think telling them "welcome to my ignore list, have a nice life" before ignoring them is fully appropriate. Not because it's a form of lashing out, but just because I believe that people learn from the feedback they get, and if they've been a big enough a** to make me ignore them (pretty rare, but has happened), I feel like they should get the feedback that they crossed the line(s); it's on them if they want to learn from that feedback.

Or short answer - "Lashing out" would be to continue the conversation with increasing levels of verbal hostility. Clarifying, followed by ignoring, not at all lashing out - IMHO.
