I've been to CO a bunch of times and at different times of the year but mainly just the Denver area. I'm familiar with the weather in that neck 9f the woods but I'm making my first trek out to hunt and will be much farther west for first rifle this upcoming season. Do I really need to bring a puffy layer? Trying to plan ahead and streamline my gear.

My puffy never leaves my pack. Even in september when it's 80 degrees. It doesn't weight anything and is a great insurance policy to stay warm in a bad situation.

Ill add ive started wearing a puffy to work. While every single other guy on the job site is wearing a 6lb carhart canvas jacket, freezing their ass off. I wear a puffy underneath my cotton hoodie and I am good down to the low teens/ high single digits.

I like a puffy in cold weather, but summer and fall I only wear fleece. Fleece is bulky and heavier, but it doesn’t turn into wet newspaper when wet. Rather than bulkiness being a negative, it makes a great a nice rifle rest when strapped onto the pack. The weight has never been an issue for me.

Puffy is really useful when you just want to sit and glass for a while on real cold days. I dunno if I'd pack it for archery but they're light and pack well. I just finally got puffy pants last year, only used them once but sure was nice to have when I did. Jacket I've always had for rifle seasons.

If your not willing to hunt naked, I can go ahead and cross you off the potential hunting partner list.
Does sitting in socks and boxers count? I stripped down to my socks and boxers recently here in TX when my hunt landed on a heat wave, it was ridiculous. Bullet ants be damned I was about to have a heat stroke lol.

My puffy jacket is always in my pack. It is a piece of gear that can affect your survival.

Close enough. I will add you to the list but it’s going to be towards the bottom. The whole Texas thing…
