Looking for first hand info on the eco-diesel wranglers or Gladiators

I don’t have one but I did a bunch of research & it’s a total crap shoot and you’re really taking your wallet in you’re own hands.

Based on my research if you buy any jeep/ram product you should have easy access to 15k to drop on a replacement engine at any time.

I really think a jeep truck would have a lot to offer for hunting.
But I’d only buy one if I could afford one with a 392 hemi.

Maybe if they have a lifter upgrade for the v6 and you have it done immediately after purchase.

In the end I stayed Toyota

Yeah, I know I have owned everything from a CJ2A -2016 Oscar Mike wrangler unlimited. Roll of the dice.

I’d love to fit 37s with minimal lift and have a straight front axle for less interference chaining.

Do they still make a diesel?
Or all used?

Do they catch fire they way wranglers did?

They are all used. I believe 23 was the last year. I've seen some good prices on used ones with low miles, as long as they maintain a good parts inventory should be good to go. Also delete the emission crap and it will last a lot longer.

If you’re looking specific at hunting and fun, and don’t need daily driver duty from it, I’d look at the wrangler LJ and mod it. I believe they are had with the inline 6 still. New ram jeep products are kinda crappy, only good thing really bout the rams now a days are the Cummins . W a deep enough wallet you could always drop a 4bt Cummins in a wrangler LJ

I've had 3 JK's and my current JL. All with the ill-fated but well-characterized 3.6L boat anchor. It's a known quantity and $4-5k to replace if needed, but things you can do to prevent the valvetrain issues.

On paper the diesel and 4XE are amazing in terms of power and range. Both are absolute nightmare's in terms of reliability and cost to repair WHEN they grenade. When I was shopping for my current JL, there were countless brand new Ecodiesels sitting in service bays with the engines pulled waiting months for repairs/replacements. 4XE's were lighting up like Christmas trees when taken off-road.

Looks like the 2.0 turbo is holding up relatively well in terms of reliability and that would be my choice today. Avoid E-torque system also and delete your aux battery.

They've been out since 2018 and you just don't hear about issues with them like every other engine Jeep has used in the JL. 🤷‍♂️

Im I have a Diesel Gladiator, owned it since 2022. I deleted the emissions using an EOC tuning kit and highly recommend doing so, if you plan on buying one. I get 20mpg hand calculated around town on 37’s, hard to beat.

I have both, Diesel Ram, unlimited JK gasser. Just checking info, would be nice to have same fuel, oil etc.

From someone thats had multiple cummins, duramax, and powerstroke trucks, dont go into the diesel jeep thinking it will compare to a full size diesel. You will still feel every small trailer you put behind it, and the torque is no where near the same. Its great for low speed off-roading and for hitting all 8 gears on pavement without the need of re-gearing.

The after-treatment on ecodiesels are also problematic, so if you can’t find one with a warranty i would plan on tuning and deleting soon after you get it, if possible.

No worries there, It won't be used for towing, just a second 4x4 and the wife's daily driver to town. We live in the mountains, the JK is ok, but the extra torgue will be nice when grunting the grades.
