Just picked up a new/old stock Omega of Gunbroker after reading the recommendations here.

Planning on putting the Williams sight on it. Any other upgrades you guys recommend for it?

Williams peep is a good upgrade, after that your best money is spent on bullets, powder, and range time.

That was a good buy. I didn’t need it, but was watching that auction and meant to get on and put a bid in but got busy and forgot.

I put limbsaver pads on mine if you’re keeping the factory stock.

#10804 is the limbsaver part number for that pad, that's well worth it.

Limbsaver recoil pad, Blackhorn 209, Barnes 250 gr. T-EZ and replace the sabot with a Harvester Crush Rib sabot. Killed a bunch of whitetails with that setup. It’s accurate in both of mine as well.

I did buy a 3rd Omega and had Woodman Arm make me a barrel for it so I can shoot smokeless but have yet to get it to the range.

Not sure if Skinner sights makes a peep but Williams will work. Just put loktite on it as they have been know to loosen up.

Thanks for the messages and replies. Got the Williams sight, pad, cedar mountain quick loaders all on the way.

This is going to be a dedicated elk gun for new mexico and colorado.

are the barnes the way to go with this ? and what color loctite are you using to mount the Williams ? I assume blue ?

My omegas have been very accurate with the Barnes 245 spitfire and 250 tmz and they worked good on whitetail at home. Never had a reason to try anything else.

Haha. Typical forum replies. "Good gun. Just get a different breech plug, barrel, stock, peep sight, and recoil pad." $1000 later and you should have a great gun!

Enjoy the smoke pole, whichever way you go with it! They are good shooters, even without all the upgrades suggested above.

Colorado requires full bore projectiles, no sabots. I ordered the Thor bullets sizing kit, found my bore size, then worked up a load shooting the 297gr hammers. Haven't shot an elk with it yet but mighty effective on the whitetail I shot.

The OP asked for upgrades. And was given some ideas. But none are required. I’ve got 6 or 8 Omegas and upgraded Woodmegas. Awesome rifles. The finest production muzzy ever, IMO. But anything can be improved.

@Ten Bears you may have read this elsewhere, but some percentage of Omegas (and Encores) had the QLA (false muzzle) bored off centerline slightly which makes them not shoot conicals well. (The Omega was designed and marketed as a sabot rifle).

The fix, if you can’t get acceptable groups with full-bore conicals is to have the QLA cut off (~3/4”) and recrowned or to use a sub-base of some kind with your Thor or other conical. My recommendation it to shoot it and see and if you need to, order some MMP sub-bases and try those.

Sights: I prefer and recommend the Williams Ace in The Hole rear and Williams Western Precision front globe with small (.019) fiber optic insert. Use a scope to do your load dev and then take it off for hunting in NM or CO. You’ll save yourself a ton of time and money chasing your tail (doing load dev with open sights)! You’ll thank me later.

And for lots of Omega advice, go over to MML. Lots of us Omega shooters over there.
