Hello, new to the suppressor game, looking at the full size TBAC Magnus 30 cal vs the "S" model on a hunting rifle. For those of you who have experience with both, is there is significant difference in sound suppression between the two?? Pulled the attached picture showing TBAC's data on their lineup, hopefully it worked. Per the graph, the difference looks like sub 125 dBA on the full size vs 130-135 dBa on the "S". Im thinking the difference, again per the graph, looks to be say 8-10 dBA, or less than 10% difference. In that case, I'd go with the smaller/cheaper unit. But i don't know if it actually works like that.

Thanks

Decibel levels do not work in a linear way. The difference between 125 decibel and 130 is substantial. If you are concerned with hearing protection then go with the full size. Just google “125 decibels vs 130”.

What you’re trying to suppress makes a difference too. Big difference when it comes to powder burned and barrel lengths. In general the shorter the barrel the bigger the can for me.

I have a full size Magnus, and a couple ultra 7s. What I choose is highly dependent on the above

Yes, depends what you put it on. Look at the #s for 6.5 creed (4-5 db difference) compared to 300 WM (7 db difference).

Tbac makes nice stuff but the magnus cost/weight/suppression combo makes it less attractive as a hunting can to me.

The Magnus is a hell of a lot quieter than a Dominus or Ultra 7 on a 300 win mag, 7 PRC, 6.5 SAUM/PRC/Creed, and even an 18” 22 creed. For a few ounces more…..

I have both, the Magnus is noticeably quieter than the S version. I don’t have as many shots through it, but the new Nomad Ti XC is between the two.

That is a more attractive option for weight/length conscious hunting can too IMO.
