Sorry if this had been discussed, but I didn’t see anything in a search. Is it confirmed that the tax stamp will be eliminated on 1/1/2026? I’ve never owned one, but will buy one soon. Does it make sense to wait a few months to save $200? Will suppressor prices change? I’m not in a big hurry. Thanks.

I personally wouldn't wait if it is your first. I tend to agree with the S2H podcast where they thing wait times will be dramatically extended. At least in the beginning.

If you want to wait for the $0 stamp, check with your SOT if they will receive and hold it till Jan 1. Then you paid todays price and shop todays inventory availability and just have to deal with the approval timeline after Jan 1 when your form 4 is submitted.

Stamp is not going away, just the $200 tax you would normally had to pay in the past, not sure but i suspect approval times would increase with influx of submissions after Jan 1, if your not in a hurry then it doesnt hurt to wait but if you want it anytime soon i would just go ahead and pay for the stamp, my last one was approved in 2 days a couple months back

Don't forget the extended time frame thats currently in place, backing things up more. I think after Jan 1 will go back to 6 month waits for a while. I don't know, and doubt anyone yet knows what the new time frame is. It resumed what, Tuesday?

I'll be doing about 3 or 4 form 1's starting in January. I have 1 suppressor to transfer from one trust into my professional trust and then I'll covert 2 or 3 receiver to SBR so I don't have to worry about which receivers are SBR

Resumed Monday, I had approval of form 4 on Tuesday 8:30 am. I certified the day before they shut down, so there doesn't appear to be much of a back log.

It will be people who bought last week that will determine the back log, not the first few people in line at the shutdown.

As others have said, tax stamp will still exist, will just be $0 instead of $200.

I would recommend submitting now if you don't mind spending the extra $200. There are a TON of people waiting for free stamps before submitting. I expect eForms to crash 87 times and wait times to jump up with the influx of new submissions.

If you want a can now and can afford the 200, I would do it now. I just did a submission when they were shut down and it was approved this week. So maybe 2 weeks for approval.

I know I am submitting a bunch of form 1’s come January. I expect I will have 8-10 to submit. This with everyone else waiting will crash the system for a while. I also expect the supply of in stock cans will dry up quickly. The same thing happened when approvals went from 6-9 months to days/weeks. Everyone was out of stock on anything good.

I think the reason the wait times decreased dramatically was due to changes this administration pushed. I expect the wait times will continue to be quick after new years. I credit the administration not the sales numbers.

From what I’ve read I think “the firearms industry” has been successful in pushing for these two big changes. Its about making and selling new firearms and new suppressors. Its not about us saving $200 or disliking the wait. Its about manufacturers selling us new guns with threaded muzzles and suppressor manufacturing and sales growing. Most of this stuff is made in America and it does support American jobs from manufacturing to retail jobs to gunsmiths to machinists.

I think its a good example of how cutting a little red tape can make a big difference in accomplishing sht.

So, after the 1st, I'll be able to transfer from an individual to a trust without cost, right?

Are any of the online dealers doing this?
