That tent sure checks a lot of boxes. Super interested to see how this one will compare to the tarptent. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. I think the sail fabric on the tarptent might be more durable, but I’m not sure. I also am a little concerned by the Durston pole size. But I’m always confused by why tent manufacturers go with certain pole sizes. I guess I’m used to hilleberg and their size matters idea. Excited to see/hear/read the reviews. These two tents are definitely pushing me to want to sell my stone glacier tent and pick up one of these…
Yup same tent I use . I actually use the DR rainbow all year. I guy it out and u can put trekking poles at apex to hold snow load. Agree it’s got so much usable space. It’s cheap, quality, and 2.5lbs. Hard tent to beat for sure. The TarpTent stuff is top quality....and has been for decades.
I own a discontinued model of theirs that is 20 years old and still in great shape....
And I just bought a Double rainbow- about 2.5#...and glad I did over the floorless tipi options I own as the early archery elk season was hot and the mosquitos and flies were really bad. It's plenty long for my 6'3", with upright walls that give me more usable space- unlike the tipis and other trek pole options that swoop down low, limiting space and getting condensation all over your stuff.
Nice to have a full tent with floor and bug mesh vs the floorless.
